I have been having horrible pain and pressure in my neck and throat everytime I swallow my pills for the past three days. i called my surgeon yesterday and he said to go back to clear liquids and to crush my pills. So this morning I just took my smallest pills, one at a time, but I didnt crush them.....the pain was AWFUL. It only lasts for about an hour, but I still feel sore in my chest all day. What could this be?? What I really dont understand is that i had no problem taking these pills for the first two weeks, this has only happened recently. I am going to my Dr later today, but was wondering if any of you might know what this could be, please help, I am so scared that it is something gone wrong. Karyn

I have to crush all of my pills for a month. I haven't taken a whole pill yet. Maybe you need to keep crushing them. Hope the Dr. can help you. Cindy

Hi Karyn, Just wondering how you're feeling now? My PCP changed all my prescriptions (except one) to liquids for my immediate postop period. That worked out fine except for the liquid potassium (that burned and hurt like crazy and I still think it's what caused the ulceration I had to start up). There are also liquid supplements to use for a while. Have you considered asking your PCP for something like this? Also, don't be afraid to ask him/her to do an endoscopy to look and see what's going on. If you have an ulceration or any other difficulty that's going to be the first step toward finding it out and easing your mind. Also, so you'll have the info, the symptoms I'm having with gallstones right now are very GERD like ... constant aching in my throat and chest when I take a deep breath (like when you breathe in really cold air in the winter and it hurts), hurting and being uncomfortable when I swallow anything (food pills water), and every so often, for no reason that I can see, hard pressure, burning and pain radiating from my breastbone toward my back and shoulders that's so uncomfortable it's amazing. Those have lasted as much as an hour or so each and, according to my BS, are classic gallbladder attacks. Maybe you might ask your PCP to scan your gallbladder to make sure you don't have stones that are causing you difficulties. Hope you're feeling better by now, but thought I'd include this for general info. Myra

thank you all for caring! I have gone to my nutritionist and called my surgeon....they are thinking it is likely that i have been drinking too much at once because ever since my 2 week post -op i had the fear put in me that i was getting dehydrated, so i have been taking bigger sips in order to get more fluids in. My nutritionist gave me prescriptions for liquid iron as well because I am again anemic, and also I have chewable calcium, multi-vitamins, and dissolvable prevacid, which she upped the dosage to twice a day.hopefully all this along with going back to baby sips will help, if not I go back on monday. Also, Myra, (((((HUGS)))), thanks for the info, unfortunately I know all too well about gallbladder attacks, I had mine removed 5 years ago, and the pain was absolutely unbearable! You will feel like a new person when they finally get that out. Good luck to you! karyn
