I don't like valentine's day! I have never had a valentine. Plus no body has ever given me roses

I can so relate. My entire office of women are getting flowers sent to them today... I know my cats will be happy when I'm home tonight... Lori

Hi ladies! I am NOT single, but I might as well be! My husband has NEVER gotten me anything for Valentine's day and has even forgotten my birthday 4 out of the 6 years we have been together Karyn

Karyn, On the rare occassion that I start feeling sorry for myself about not having a man, I remember how it feels to have one and have them not "get it". I really think that is worse...thanks for reminding me! Lori

Hi Marlena and fellow SMOers, I hate Valentines's Day too. It was created by the card, candy and florists. I always tell my hubby not to spend the money..but everywhere you look there are advertisments and commercials designed to guilt you into indulging!! Oh and I don't care for Mother's Day either. If my kids can't tell me they love me throughout the year..then why bother...my sister and I also call Mother's Day "Guilt Day" HugsGinger

Hmmm I am sorry to hear that so many of you feel this way about V-day. I was wondering tho. Do you feel the same way about other holidays?? Say for instants 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Easter, ect?? ???? Melissa

Hi Melissa, For me, yes I do. All holidays are lousy when you're alone. Even worse is when you have never had anyone to share any holiday with. Whether it's a 4th of July backyard bbq, or a family holiday (Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.) it wears on you year after year, when you are the only one without a date/boyfriend/spouse. Spending it with family or a group of friends doesn't make any difference. It is still incredibly lonely. I just try to think that it is just another day and ignore it. Huggs, Ruth

Sandra, Great story, good for you! Thanks for sharing! There is hope for me yet! (I've had 2 marriages, 1 divorce and widowed once because my husband killed himself, been flying solo ever since!) Lori
