Been thinkin' about "cheatin' "
Confession.....................
I want to try a "little" chocolate. Like a hershey kiss or a peanut M & M. I have NOT had ANYTHING of that nature since surgery. Almost 9 months. I don't "crave" it, just want to see if I can eat it. Then again, I tell myself, Carm, DON'T DO IT............... You will open a flood gate.
I probably am too chicken to do it anyway. I'm only thinking about it. I promise I won't.
Just wanted to put this in writing.
Thanks for listening.

You really don't want to dump. It is supposed to be awful. You really don't want to find out you don't dump. It is not a good feeling to start to have to rely on self control to stay away from sweets. I don't dump and I have to talk myself out of sweet junk food all the time, when I am succesful at resisting. Have a long talk with yourself. Make a concious decision about this. There is no turning back. It is much easier to stay away fron sweets when it is completely out of your system like it is now. Many hugs, Loris
on the flip side, carmella, if you stop at one 'taste' of anything, knowing that you can try and then stop, you will feel alot more empowered and confident of your ability to control your own self.
eventually, the decision will come down to can i or can't i?. if you decide, ahead of time, will i or won't i?, you retain the power. by the way, kudos for going almost nine months without slipping. that's truly awesome in and of itself.
whatever you decide to do, carmella, please know that you are loved.

One answer for you Carmella would be to try some of the sugar-free chocolate candies on the market today. Reese's actually makes a sugar-free peanut butter cup, and Russell Stover's s-f chocolates aren't too bad. My cousin, also a post-op, always has these in her "supply" bag when we travel to the doctor or to support Group, so I've had a taste of a RS Turtle, RS Peanut Butter Crunch, and RS Chocolate Toffee (all s-f). Note the word "taste" there... because these are small pieces of candy, and one bite was really enough. Once you're experiencing it, there's enough chocolate candy taste turn off the craving, but it's just not all it used to be, and therefore pretty easy to avoid in future. That might be your answer. For me, it didn't open any flood gates, but got my curiosity on that aspect dealt with without making me worry or feel all that guilty.

Carmella,
I've eaten chocolate. It is still a "red light" food for me. It doesn't make me sick, like other sugars. So, I have to watch it!
I'm a chocoholic, wish I'd never tried it. I don't have it around my house at all, but, it somehow ends up around me at the office more often then I'd like, then I have a hard time leaving it alone.
Hope you do better than I have!

Don't Do It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are correct in it could possibly open a flood gate. You just keep on thinking that you dump and will be very ill if you try it.
The other ladies suggestion of a sf chocolate sounds the best idea if you want something sweet, but you might dump from the sugar alcohols from that also so just be very careful.
take care,
Kelly

I wont tell you not to. And I wont tell you to go ahead. Only because I am not in your place. And I know from expereince that when you are wanting something. The worst thing for anyone to tell you is DONT!!! That will make you want it all the more. So my suggestion to you would be this: (And please this is only a suggestion) If you want to try chocolate. Try a sugarfree brand. I am diabetic and I have tasted almost every kind that is out on the market today. Trust me they have come a long way (thank goodness) and some you cant hardly tell that it is sugarfree. The best that I have tasted is from Asher's they make fudge, assorted mix, all kind of things and they are so smooth and creamy!!!!! The other brand is Pure D-lite's I found them watching QVC one day but they have their own website. Kind of pricey but so well worth it. They have candy bars, treasures, truffles, ect. And they are really good with no after taste. I hope this helps you in some small fraction. And that you will let us know how it turned out either way.
Good Luck
Melissa
