hi marlena. i've dealt with depression, via medication, for the past 15 years. always blamed it on my weight. since surgery, i've had better days more frequently, but still take paxil and am a long, long way from feeling normal - whatever that is. i wish you luck with your mood swings. the hormones, etc... are truly frightening, when you consider what they can do to a person. please take care of yourself and, if you find you need help, please don't hesitate to ask. hugs dorthe

Hi Marlena... I too have dealt with depression in the past. I have found since surgery, that I have more anger and bitter feelings, than depression. I am told that it passes in time. I sure hope so. Hang in there. Huggs, Ruth

Hi Marlena: 1st off BEAUTIFUL PICTURE!!!! Depression.............ahhh yes. MEDICATION. I had the "bright" idea to go off my meds. 4 days post op, because I couldn't stand crushing the pill and eating it. Well about 3 months ago I'm back on it again. Lexapro 20mg. Someday I hope it goes away. Best of Luck!~ Carmella

This is real common with any surgery, but with your history, I'd get with my doctor on this right away to get my medication adjusted. You don't want to swing too low. And you know it takes a while for the changes to take effect. Keep us up to date on how you are doing. We all care. Loris

I've been on Paxil for the last year. Also, I've been in therapy for a while. The pills keep me from escalating into full on panic attacks, but the therapy is really what helps me with my depression, as well as with a lot of the issues surrounding surgery. So I recommend finding a good therapist. I went to Catholic Charities in my area (initially, I didn't have health insurance) and found a great counseolr there.

Marlena(((((((((((((BIG HUG)))))))))))))))) Funny you should post this about depression. I quit taking Zoloft after surgery. I was fine for a while...........but after alienating everyone in my family, throwing temper tantrums that would make a 2 year old jealous, and acting like Mad Max with road rage............I started taking it again 2 days ago. I feel better now. (and my family can come out come out wherever they are) We will live to fight another day, Girlfriend!! willby

Hi Marlena, I can tell you that I suffer from depression as well. And i Have noticed that since I am about 3 and a half months out that my emotions are a little off the charts. So my doctor said that alot of it is the truama that the surgery places on your body. Plus I am begining to realize that I don't have to sit here and take peoples crap anymore. So I have become much more assertive letting people know when they call me names - I don't like it. So with all that said - My doc increased my meds for a short period of time. To help with everything thats going on. And then I am sure my meds will go back down when I am ready for them too. I was also informed by the doc that the anthestic does not help either. Monica F.
