Hi All... Went for my consult on 3-1-06, doc wants to do Lap RNY. Have my psyche eval, ekg and stress test scheduled for the next week or so. The insurance coordinator told me that my insurance was great to get approval from and that I will probaby be approved before they get the results of my pre-pre-testing. Woo Hoo!!!! I am excited but also concerned. My hubby is afraid I will die during surgery. I told him that there are definite risks, but that if I did not have surgery I would die sooner than either of us wanted. I also told him that if The Lord wanted me in Heaven on 4-18, I would go whether I had surgery or not. I believe that we all have a time appointed to die and that there is nothing we can do to change that fact. I don't know what else to do to help him. Any suggestions?

Welcome Michelle, This surgery is risky. But, if your weight is affecting your health and quality of life then it is worth the risk. Being super morbidly obese has a tremendous risk as well. Follow all the doctor's orders, you will be okay, but, it isn't a magic fix for every one. You need to go into this well informed. I've done well, but, there are many here who have had complications. Again, you just need to weigh the risks of staying the same, or changing your life. Good luck, Lori 384/250.5/168

Hi Michelle, I have a story to tell your husband. I had the surgery and my best friend was waiting for her insurance to approve the surgery and died from complications due to obesity. And there was one lady in our group that died before she could have the surgery. I bet the statistics for dying are higher before the surgery than after. Anyway, don't know if that will help but good luck. deb

Congrats Michelle!! There's nothing that will put your hubby's mind at ease like seeing you as a healthy happy post op... Of course he's going to be nervous and scared. That just means he loves you.... You have obviously weighed the pros and cons of surgery vs. obesity and you have decided it's worth the risks. I think most of us if not all of us have come to this decision in a similar way. Perhaps if he could talk to some post-ops at a local support group?? My DH has been much better now that he knows he is working with several post ops and they're all just fine. In fact he'll come home and report on which pouch rules they've broken LOL When he gets depressed or worried I try and go over the positives of why I am doing this. Being healthy and more independent.. going back to work.. going dancing.. looking HOT in a pair of jeans.. this usually cheers us both up LOL I agree with you.. when it's our time, it's our time, no matter what. That was decided before we ever showed up on earth.
