New to this Message Board

Hi All, I am new to this message board. My name is Lori and I live in Canada. I have been posting on the Ontario forum. I have just booked my initial consult for Mar 27 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I am still awaiting final approval from OHIP (my health insurance). My BMI is 58 (I think, there seems to be some discrepancy in my height which in some cases has my BMI at 60 or higher). I have been browsing this board as I am concerned I may experience some things differently that the others in the Ontario forum as most of them have significantly lower BMI's. It looks like a lot of people have just gotten surgery dates, it gives me hope! Lori

Hi Lori! I'm Lori too! I started with a BMI of 57. I'm 9.5 months out. I've lost 136 lbs and feel great. I still have 80 lbs to go. I have had no complications, but, I did follow the rules, so it is not completely by accident. Some of the ladies here have had complications. You do have a higher risk of it with a higher starting bmi, but, you also have a very high risk of developing co-morbidities (if you don't have them already). It is worth the risk...at least it was for me and for most of the folks on this board. You are in the right place! We understand! Lori 384/248.5/168

Hi Lori! Welcome to the best board on OH! My starting BMI was 69. It is now 61. You are definitely in the right place! Huggs, Ruth

I am new here as well. My BMI is 52 and my surgery is scheduled for this coming Tuesday 9:00 AM. I hope to meet some new friends here and get some helpful tips and encouragement from other online people who can understand where I am and what I am going thru.
