Hair Loss??

Hi All, I just thought I'd post a question about this hair loss. I will be 4 months post-op next week....can you believe that?? I started noticing the hair loss last month. I take flax seed oil and Biotin along with my calcium and vitamins...but the hair loss is so annoying! I wash my hair..it clumps out in the shower. When I brush and blow-dry my hair..even more! I guess my question really is...should I wear some sort of cape or something when I do my hair? Should I wear a hair net when I cook meals for my family? I already have a white/cream colored dog that is sheading like crazy...now my hair is on the floor along with the dog's hair. Have any of you more "experienced" post-oppers have any kind of knowledge to share with this frustrated post-op newbie in Arizona?? Hugs, Ginger

Hi Virginia, Girl I feel for you. Been there done that. I have long hair and I was so upset. It will stop. My doctor said it happens to everyone no matter what you do or how much protein you eat. My hair is so thin now but I refuse to cut it. It's not falling out anymore. Thank goodness. I also take Biotin. Good luck. Diana 379/177/?

Diana, Now that's what I wanted to hear....someone who lived throught the drama!!! Interesting, that it happens to everyone. I too have had my hair long for so long that I'm afraid to cut it. Glad to know that there is a light at the end of the rainbow! HugsGinger

Ginger, You might check with your BS ... mine added zinc to my supplements for a while, along with the biotin ... and my nutritionist suggested using Head and Shoulders because the zinc content in it would be helpful. It will stop, but it's worrisome while it's going on. Baby your hair as much as you can, and try not to put too much stress on it now, because that will prolong the process. All the best Myra

Hi Myra, I don't know why I feel so obsessive about my hair..when it was the quest of the healthy body that I am striving for. Last night I put together a family dinner/get together for my brother's b-day (it was st. patty's day) Again I was whying about my hair loss..my dear sister who is also overweight, took me aside and told me that maybe the reason why I was feeling so obessive about my hair loss was because as an obese woman, you get to the point where your head/face is the only thing that you feel that you have control of. With her, it's her fingernails..long and beautiful. With pretty nails..you don't have to be skinny. With full-bodied hair...you don't have to be skinny either!! Don't get me wrong...I'd rather be on the skinny train and lose my hair....then be on the fat train going nowhere!!!! I don't know how I came up with that line???? Maybe because we watched "Walk The Line" and Johnny Cash sang a "Train" song that is totally stuck in my mind!!!!! Anyways, I think my brain still has to catch-up to my SLOWLY shrinking body!!! Hugs, Ginger

Hey Dorthe, I told myself that when I lose 100 pounds...then I am going for a new dew...It will take some time to get used to that idea since my hair has never been shorter than shoulder length. I've been brushing out my dog cause when I pet him, my hand comes off with a handful of hair. Same with me..no breakage.. just falling out at the root!!! Glad I just bought a new vaccum....between the two of us (me and the dog) we will keep the Hoover company in business!! HugsGinger

I am sorry you are losing your hair. I understand that just about everyone goes through this. I will be following you in a few months. I had my hair cut short for my back surgery last year. So I dont have too much to lose. But I understand that it grows back in a few months. love marie
