Well I've finally reached the point where I completed the 3 month multi-disciplinary approach and my package has been sent in to Aetna for approval as of 2 weeks ago. What can I say, I'm literally scared crazy. My BMI is 52.6, what if they deny me? I've tried every diet known to man and have just not been successful. I have to lose this weight. I have 2 daughters, ages 6 and 4 and a wonderful husband. I'm scared if I don't have this surgery and lose this weight, I won't be around to grow old with my husband or see my girls grow up. Does anyone have Aetna with a BMI over 50 that has been approved for a RNY? Any advise would be welcome. Thanks for letting me share with you guys.

Cathy, I do not have Aetna, but our BMIs are almost identical and I also worry about not being around for Caitlyn (age 8) and Jeremy (age 6) - and of course Craig (age 38). As my surgeon says, keep bugging the insurance company! Don't give up and fight until you get approval. My old company had Aetna with a no WLS restriction - I had to wait a year until they switched carriers to United Healthcare with no restrictions on WLS - they switched because we workers banded together and demanded it. I left the company, but COBRAed the insurance so I can have the surgery. Don't give up and you will have the surgery. God Bless!

Thanks for the encouragement Michelle. My prayers and best wishes are with you for your surgery in April. I have to admit I am envious that you have a surgery date and I don't, at least not as of yet. Oh and by the way, my 6 year old is a Caitlyn as well (same spelling too!). Oh well thanks again, and best wishes for your surgery and weight loss journey.
