DISCOURAGED!
I am so discouraged! I am almost 3 months out and have only lost 39 pounds! It seems others are losing at such a faster pace. What am I doing wrong? I am getting 70+grams of protein a day and my 64 oz. of fluids. I do cardio and weights 3 days a week. I'm beginning to wonder if it was all worth it! Help! I've still got 190 pounds to go!

Sandra,
Try not to be discouraged. We all do this at our own pace. Sometimes I feel like I'm very slow when I compare myself to others, but, I know it is okay, it is just tough to be patient with this.
I exercise 5 days a week, with the occassional 6th day and I'm currently losing 6 to 8 lbs a month, I'm 10 months out....

Sandra,
I totally understand what you are saying and how you feel. I am in the same boat as you are. I am losing very slowly and it can be very frustrating and depressing sometimes. I am doing well with protein and fluids too. Some days it feels like I am fighting my way upstream all day long. I have 183 pounds to go.
My surgeon said that it will take me 2 years to lose all the weight, that it is only 3 months, that I was heavier than the average WLS patient, and not to worry about it. Easy for him to say. Just want you to know that you aren't alone in this struggle.
Huggs,
Ruth
Maybe, maybe not, Ruth ... I'm down 180 in 12 months ... and I've had three really long (4 - 8 week) stalls along the way. The fact that we were/are heavier than the average WLS patient can actually work to our benefits. I didn't believe that at first, but look where I am now.
I've two cousins who had open RNY also, on May 20, 2004. One had 170 lbs to lose and she hit maintenance/goal last November. The older cousin (more my size to begin with and my height) has lost 210 lbs to date and is currently 30 pounds from her stopping point before PS will remove the remaining 10-15 lbs. They're both going to be 2 years out this May. I'm ONE year out the 30th of this month, and I'm right now I'm only 30 lbs behind the older cousin in pounds lost. See what I mean?
All I'm saying with all this is I don't think it's always a completely predictable timetable and you might surprise yourself as much as I've surprised me.
((((You're never alone!!! hugs)))

Sandra ...
Keep the faith, girlfriend ... we all lose at our own rates, and it comes in spurts and stutters sometimes. Also, remember, as we replace fat cells with muscle buildup, weight can stay static. Just do what's right for you ... and it will begin to come off. You're worrying just like I did early on, because I had so much to lose (still have 100+ to go), but here I am 1 year later, and I'm down 180 lbs!
Don't think in terms of the whole amount you have to use. Set small goals like 10 - 15 - or 20 lbs. at a time. You can accomplish those easier now, and you'll feel better and better and better about the process each time you complete one. It's how I had to look at things ... I just kept being overwhelmed at the total amount I had to lose and was worrying all the time. When I stopped paying attention to that, I felt better, and things *seemed* to move along better. Give it a try.
All the best to you ... and (((hugs)))

Hi Sandra,
Im just going to mimick what everyone else said. It is not a race with others. As long as you lose, you are doing better then if you didnt have the surgery cause you would be gaining. I thought I was going to be the only one it didnt work for. I am down 180lbs in 19mos. That is slow compared to some people, I still have 40lbs to go. Guess what, I dont care now, I feel good and now it doesnt matter if I lost 50lbs in 3 months or 50lbs in 6mos, all that counts is I lost it. Please dont compete with others it will only make you nutz. Keep up the good work and try to stay positive. You are doing everything right, so pat yourself on the back and forget about the numbers, just eat your protien and drink you fluids.
Hugs,
Soos
