Killer back pain
Just avoid ... that's A-V-O-I-D ... a "pillow-top" and don't let anyone tell you it's good for your back ... nope nope nope!!!
I'm 5 years post-op back surgery that didn't do what it was supposed to do ... and was 442lbs last year at this time. WLS has allowed me to reclaim my life and my back pain has reduced from about a 15+ (on the 1-10 scale
) to about a 4+ now ... totally livable and tolerable. All the best to you, and I commiserate with you, I *know* how you're feeling.
If you can stand it, the firmer the better (mattress-wise) ... certainly the pillow-top I had made things worse.
Take care,

Oh God, dont get that space foam crap.... I had it and it really only lasted me 4 months, honestly. it got saggy, and colapsed and uncomfortable...... then I called to try and get the waranty and was told the in the sales pamplet thing it say its only graded to hold 250 lbs. I was super mad...
I think I have read some where that those sleep number beds have a weight thing to...
Well, now I'm sleeping on a ~~Sealy Sacred Firm Mattress~~
I was truely blessed, when I walked into the mattress place a salesman was all in my "grill" about what I needed. Bla Bla Bla. Then an angel came over and told him to, well buzz of realy...Ha Ha
She was the store manager and a Big Girl too. And she showed me two beds. I thought there were both too firm. but she made a very good piont "you can always make the mattress softer, but you can't make it firmer" and she was totaly rite, you can put those fluffy things on top of the mattress or something....
And she convinced me to get a queen size (I sleep alone) and have a small bed room. so I thought I did not have enough room or need a big bed. But It's a really good idea, cuase I've had it a year and there's no deep lumps in it. I love it, and realy highly recommened it !! Hope it helps!
Cheers k
both dh and i swear by the sleep number bed. we had the pillowtop, we had the waterbed, we had old and used. by far, the best has been the sleep number bed. i have mine set at 55 and dh at 35. and we're both pretty content. the only real drawback is the 'ridge' in the middle when we 'visit' each other. but the great night's sleep is wonderful.
good luck in the search
