Hello My name is Melinda and i am new to this msg board. I have a question. I started at 326 and i am 5'2" yes my bmi was 59.6. Now i am 158, my bmi is 28.8. I have lost 168lbs in 13 short months. My question stems from the fact that i desire to lose 28 more lbs. I want to be 130 lbs. I know i started BIG, REAL BIG, but as anyone here ever started this big and made it to the normal range of the BMI? Any words of wisdom on how to do it? It seems i eat 1000-1200 calories a day and the weight loss is slow, like 4lbs a month, if i am lucky. I need words of encouragement and advice. Thanks.

Melinda: First off Welcome to this message board and second of all Big Congrats for your weight loss!!!! That is totally awsome. I have lost 173 pounds in 10 months and I am now slowing down and scared. I still want to lose another 60 lbs. I guess the way I look at it now........If you continue to lose 4 lbs a month, you should reach your goal in about 7-8 months. Really that is not at all bad. Me being SMO cannot remember ever saying "If I can only lose 60 blah blah pounds". It was always "I have to lose 2 hundred.....blah blah." 28 pounds is doeable. Just go back to the basics and if need be, call your nut for advise. Are you working out? Eat protien, water and sensible snacks and you will make your goal!!!!! Best of Luck~~ Carmella

Melinda, I started at 384, I've lost about 140 lbs in 10 months. It is much slower now. If I could get to 200 lbs I think I'd be happy. In the meantime I'm just exercising each day. I know I'm a whole lot healthier. That is the real reason I did this. Hang in there! Your window of opportunity is still open! Lori 384/245/168

I'm a bit of a BMI hater. ;) I started at 478, with a BMI of 65. Now, I'm at 200 with a BMI of 27...still in the overweight category. However, according to my body composition analysis, I'm now at 12.5% body fat, which is actually in the Athletic/Lean category. I've got a lot of muscle mass that stayed around from my football days. If I were to lose the additional 25 pounds I'd need to be 'normal' I'd have less than 1% body fat. That's in the 'dying' range. So, I'm not normal BMI, nor will I be--but I'm quite happy with being labeled 'Lean'. ;) Eric C.

Melinda, Hang in there and keep forging ahead. I am 21 months out and still loosing, the weight loss slows down as you get closer to goal. I also exercise 7 days a week and I keep my eating in check. I started my journey at 415 lbs with a BMI of 65 and currently I weigh 163 lbs with a BMI of 25.5 (24.9 is normal)..I am just 4 lbs away from falling into the normal BMI category. Mary
