Med question....
Hey Girls!
I have a question about previous meds. Im having surgery May 1st and I take 2 prescriptions right now...Hydrocholrathaizde (blood pressure/water pill) and Zoloft, and they need to be filled in the next 2 weeks. Should I call my PCP and ask for them to be in liquid form? Should I just skip filling them till surgery? (that sounds like a bad idea right) lol. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Stephanie
Steph...
You should check with your surgeon along with your PCP about the HCTZ.. Depending on how high your blood pressure is, you may not take it at all after surgery.. Not everyone is the same though.. I was taking HCTZ pre-op.. But was told not to take it at all after surgery.. As for the zoloft, you might want to get it in liquid just to avoid having to cru**** and try to gag it down that way.. Again, it will depend on what your surgeon will allow.. Some will allow you to swallow pills right after surgery as long as they are small, others wont allow it.. The best place to start is with your surgeon! You would hate to pay for a refill that you cant use, or pay for a refill in a form that you cant tolerate!!

Definately talk to you surgeon...but...IMHO don't stop your medications until you are told to. You will likely need the Zoloft and even the HCTZ (for a while). The Zoloft comes in a liquid and I would ask your doctor to write you a script for the liquid. I'm not sure about the HCTZ (but a pharmacist could tell you). I take Zoloft too and will be doing the same thing that you ae doing just prior to my surgery.
Best of luck!
