dumping?
hey guys,
I've never posted before but i've been around for awhile. i have a question about what other people have felt like during a dumping session. Last night I woke up in more pain then i have ever been in. I thought maybe it was heartburn so I took some chewable pepcid, wrong thing to do. This made it worse. I started dry heaving because of course there wasn't anything in my stomach. This lasted for at least 20 minutes, during which my back hurt, i had cold sweats, and i couldn't breathe. I thought I was going to die seriously. This never happened to me before so it really freaked me out. What have the rest of you experienced? Is this normal?
Thanks,
Rachel
Rachel,
I dumped once by eating a donut with frosting (I deserved it I know). I had cold and hot sweats, felt super lousy and had to lay down. It may have been dumping that you experienced, but, just to be sure, I think you should call your surgeon since you are so new out.
Good luck,

I agree with Lori. Always best to check with your dr.
I have dumped a few times. Sometimes my own fault, sometimes not.
When I have dumped, it starts within 10-15 minutes or so of eating. I sweat, I tremble, my heart races, and my belly feels like it is being twisted like a dish rag. Not fun!
They have lasted 30-45 minutes or so for me, but I have heard they they can last for several hours. When it is over I usually fall asleep (crash is a better word), for two hours or more sometimes. Not a pleasant experience to say the least. Always safest to call your doctors office.

Rachel,
It's hard to know what to really pay attention to and what not to.
I've had two "regular" dumping episodes ... one where I just felt nauseous, had the hot sweat/cold sweat thing, and just in general felt like crap. The second one (in response to me eating 4 fritos with cheese dip on them ... talk about deserving what you get!) was truly horrible and I never want to go through that again. All the typical symptoms already mentioned along with chest pain, back pain, couldn't get comfortable in any position, made my throat feel kind of closed and sensitive to air (if that makes sense ... kind of like breathing extra cold air suddenly) and the whole thing lasted about 45 mins to an hour. I really wondered if I was having a heart attack ... seemed to have all those symptoms ... but when I checked with my PCP the next day he said I was fine, just had a MAJOR dump.
Still ... both my dumps were within 30 mins of eating. My advice would be to talk with your BS about this since it woke you up hours after eating. There are other things that could be causing this and there would be no sense in taking any risks on just assuming it's a dump.
all the best.
Myra
