Yesterday I called my nut and asked her how many calories I should be eating. She told me that I shouldnt be worrying about calories this early out. and asked what I was eating. I told her that I was eating mostly meat and a few veg. I thought I was doing good. I am down 43 pds in my ninth week out. I drink propel as my main source of water. Have from the beginning. It settled better than regular water although I can drink regular water now. the propel goes down better well she informed me that I shouldnt be drinking propel. and that I should be drinking protein shakkes. Which the other nut told me that they wanted me to try to get all my protein from food instead of the shakes. talk about mass confusion. Then this morning my doc nurses called and says the nut told her I was drinking pop and eating things I should not eat. well that is a flat out lie. I never drink much pop before surgery and havent toouched it since surgery not one of my triggers or missed items. I dont think they know what they are talking about one tells me one thing another tells me something else.. But they have me so upset and confused I dont know what to eat and I just cannot stop crying and that is not me. here is a typical day of what I eat. first--- propel water 16.7 ounces and vitamins breakfast--- one egg, or 1/ 3 cup otameal, or 2.oz piece of cheese Lunch--- 3 oz meat, a tblsp of veg. or some type of bean soup, chilli, water again after one half hour after lunch dinner--- repeat of lunch, sometimes or a piece of fish, or soup propel again after onehalf hour after dinner snack----- soup, or piece of cheese. or beans of some sort I did eat a couple of bites of cake on my birthday. but I never eat bread, seldom eat fried foods, no pasta, no sweets.

I am so sorry they are giving you that crazy talk. "Nut" sounds like the right chocie of name for them all LOL My nut. wasn't very helpful and I really only met them 1 time the day before surgery and they really have no follow up. that said I did get a little book from the Dr. and have kind of been following that and what I learn on here. I figure as long as I am losing and my labs come back good I am doing well. I think what you have written sounds about right for what I was doing and still do on most days. Maybe you can call your Dr. and see if there is another nut. or just see if your regular Dr. has a nut. they can send you to if that is the way you want to go. Please don't let them get to you just follow your body and your blood work. It will work Good luck on your journey, Jennifer 357/253/175ish

Rie: Don't you just hate it when the right hand doesn't talk to the left hand? GRR! I am lucky in that my bariatric doc keeps all the weight management folks on the same page with regard to my pre-surgery regimen. It's hard enough to be compliant when everyone on my team knows what I need to do -- if I had one person saying "A" and another saying "B", I'd probably go postal or something. Since Propel does have some calories and a little bit of sugar, I can see that a Nazi-type nutritionist might consider it soda pop. Have you thought about trying regular water with a bit of DaVinci or Torani sugar free syrup added? I don't like the taste of regular water, either, so I drink decaf unsweetened iced tea. Since the nutritionists cannot agree on which eating path you need to be taking, I would ask them to put in writing exactly what it is they want you to eat, and make sure the doctor puts a copy in your medical file. Then when the nurse decides to jam you up, you can tell her you are following the prescribed diet. A pox on them for making you feel bad for no reason! Kix

Rie, Im sorry your having so much confusion on what you should be doing! I do understand your confusion. You will eventually find your own path and figure out what works for you. Try your best to stick as close as you can to what your told to do. The "nut" at my surgeons office gave us all a packet of instructions at our pre-op meeting. It gave us a time line for each food, portions, etc.. I stuck as close to that as I could and paid the price when I emailed her with a question.. The same lady who gave me the packet of food info jumped me about not following her timeline.. She gave me a huge lecture, belittled me, and made me feel just horrible.. I pulled out the paper work and found the only thing I did "wrong" was I was drinking 2% milk instead of non-fat.. I couldnt stomache the non-fat... I havent met with her again since that day. I found myself a different "nut" and have continued to meet with her on a pretty regular basis. My surgeon is okay with me going to a different "nut" and understood my frustration. All the advice that my current "nut" has given me pretty much follows his plan, the only exception is that she meets with me and evaluates my protein needs for me personally. She calulated my exercies, age, height, weight, etc and adjusts my protein intake to give me the best results for my lifestyle. Good Luck! You are doing fine by my surgeons guidelines... Every surgeon is different though.. Make sure at your next check up that you get a detailed set of instructions for your nutrition.. If you have it in an info packet or writing then you can bring it with you to show them who told you to do what. The surgeon, nurses, and "nuts" all dont always communicate too well.. Just do your best! Dont let it get to you! Also, if you keep a food diary you can always take that in and show what youve been eating, drinking, etc.. Amber

Hi Marie (((((((hugs)))))) Every nutritionist and every doctor is going to have a different opinion. Perhaps the NUT thinks propel is pop?! I've never drank propel. Does it have sugars in it? It sounds like you are doing just fine. Lots of protein and fluids. Keep doing what your doing. It is obviously working for you. I eat very similiarly to you, except I have a SF popsicles or SF pudding for my evening snacks. Huggs, Ruth 416/342/Healthy

Ruth, Propel has 10 calories for 8 ounces, crystal light has 5 calories for 8 ounces. I think people get Propel confused with Gatorade, which is loaded with calories. I said I drink Propel the other night at my support group and the leader told me, no way, it has too many calories!!! She needs to keep up on things, but, doesn't. Lori

Thanks Lori! Sounds like the NUT's need to keep on top of things! Huggs, Ruth

I dont know what they confused it with. I dont like that nut anyway. I had trouble with her last year before surgery when she did my eval. she didnt recommend me for the surgery. I went back to the doctor and talked to him and he agreed to do the surgery. So maybe she is still mad as I went above her head or around it. I will request the other nut next time I call. It was a direct line and I just left a message and she called back. I have an appointment on the 31 with both nurse and my nut will get it clariefied then . thank you all I was just so upset about it earlier today I didnt even want to eat. or know what to eat. I am calmer now
