Urinary Tract Infection
Good Morning Fellow Smoers
I believe that, I may have a UTI, I seem to have some of the symptoms since I've had one in October, I know what one feels like. However I wanted to know if this was common after the surgery? I am now drinking cranberry juice, and trying to get in all the water, I can, but it can be hard with such a tiny pouch. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks so much in advance to anyone who answers this post.

T,
My personal experience is that anytime Ive had a cath put in I end up with a nasty UTI!! Not everyone gets them, I guess Im just prone.. You might want to contact either your surgeon or your primary doc to get some antibiotics. If you dont get it totally cleared up it will just come back later... And the longer you put off the more annoying the symptons can get!

Hi T
I've had several UTIs over the years and two since surgery. I was allowed to take something I've always taken, Azo-Standard (generic Azo-Gesic). It's an OTC you can get at any drug store or maybe WallieMart. I was advised NOT to take it any longer than two days, but it averted a full-blown UTI each time. It's not an antibiotic, but it works somehow to relax the spasms and ease the burning, and in doing so, help get urine flowing well enough to flush out some of the bad stuff before it can really get organized into bad infection. Both times postop, I strictly adhered to the two day only thing, and didn't really notice any discomfort/side effects, and got relief. However, I WAS further postop than you are right now. Since you're so newly postop and every MD has differing opinions about things, I'd sure check with your BS/PCP or your nurse 1st, because I'd hate to tell you this and it be the wrong thing for YOU to do. It's just something that has worked for me, what my PCP has always had me take to begin with before starting on antibiotics to see if the situation would ease up. Be aware, however, it turns urine bright orange!!
Hope you're feeling better soon.
Myra
