I understand that you have to remove piercings when you go in for surgery, but what is the reasoning? Can you wear any type of retainer so the hole will not close up? And if not, do you think a tongue piercing over 5 months old would close up in the amount of time it would take to complete surgery?

I got the answer about my nipple ring as well. Doctor said to have it out before surgery ( he doesn't like to remove them) and that I could put it back in anytime once I am in my room. He just prefers not to be asked to help put it back in. He was sweet. I think I will have my mom do it.

Does any one have any experiences with surgery and body piercings. How long they had to have it out? and When were you able to put it back in?

Another pierced and tattooed gal here. Got a tongue piercing and I know the one stereotype does not apply to me, but what's the other one??? I didn't know there was more than one, lol. My dad absolutely hates it, because of that stereotype. He asked if I will have to take it out for surgery and I said yes. He said, "Then just leave it out". No way, I love it. And I agree with you Michelle regarding it looking erotic and sexy. And men are totally fascinated by it. Would LOVE to be able to show my belly with a piercing after my surgery and weight loss. Also have 5 piercings on my left ear and two on my right. I had my tragus pierced (that little triangle of cartilage on your ear right next to your cheek), but I had to take it out. I am a nurse and I was unable to effectively listen to lung, heart and bowel sounds in addition to bruits on a dialysis graft in a patients arm because the earring got in the way of putting the scope in my ears. I also have two tattoos, one on each leg. The left one is a flaming heart on the outside of the ankle with a wrap around. The right one is a siamese cat. I take it, you had your surgery already??? I have piercings and tattoos also. Have 5 ear and nipples done. I want to have bellybutton done after surgery and weight loss(so that my bellybutton can be seen) I understand about the , sometimes my barbells are outlined when wearing a clingy top, and I've heard the whispers. As for shock value, I've been an accountant for 20 years and had to put up with the sterotype attitudes in college (I went back when I was 30) and took belly dancing (I 'd for 15 years) I have always enjoyed doing what people least expect. It keeps them on their toes.

I think that tattoos and piercings are sexy, as long as you don't get carried away. My tongue is pierced. You can gossip all you want but neither of the stereo types may be applied. I basically did it for shock value. All my friends view me as a "Miss Goody Two Shoes" and could never see me doing something of that nature. I think that it looks erotic and sexy, so I did it. Now all the men bow down to me (lol) I plan to get my belly button pierced one day in the near future as well. Other than that I've got the traditional ear piercings. Well, that's all for now!
