Ya.. it works for me. I try new routines all the time. In another 4 - 6 weeks I'll be looking for something new to do. Maybe go back to the HIT and a more traditional split. The other style I really like is doing giant and super sets with several exercises back to back and then about a 90 sec rest between. I end up doing 3 giant sets (or series) and my workout is complete.

Man.. I have not been on a nordictrack in ages. That was a good workout. I am hoping to do some real skiing this winter. All my life I've never done any downhill skiing and have always wanted to try. The last few years I let my weight get in the way. Now I will have no excuses! Ha.. that is a great problem to have. Even when I lift I try not to let it go lower than 120 during and between sets but sometimes that's hard. I think doing the compound movements and doing more standing then sitting and laying whenever possible also helps to keep it up. Squats always gets it up really high.. like 165. For example, if I do my rows on the cable cross and hold in a squat position instead of sitting and using the traditional row machines (hammer strength or cybex) that seems to help too.

Ok.. this morning I kicked some butt spinning. I did a full hour of spin. Burned just under 600 calories. Had a nice cool down stretch after and then hit the shower. I'm feeling really strong and really good!` I had a couple of protein balls when I woke up (oats, peanut butter, steel's sugar free honey, choc protein powder - made them around 50 - 75 cal each). I had 2 more post workout along with a couple big fresh strawberries too. Yum! I think that really helped add to my energy level. Tomorrow afternoon I am teaching a 45 min spin class and taking over the studio. I have a few friends from work that are going to join me as guests at my gym. In the morning I will just focus on lifting. It will be my first split workout in ages.

Kicking butt Stayce, I do intervals on the Norditrack, but only 4-6 times a month, kicks my ass. I do sprint here and there every time I do the Norditrack, but just to keep the heart rate up if it starts dropping ( a problem I never used to have, but now if I am not really working, my heart rate begins to drop, does that mean I am getting fit?)

Hi Everyone: Yes, today was leg day at ye olde gym. A day full of leg presses, extensions, curls, and calf raises. Tomorrow, it's cardio kickboxing for 45 minutes followed by 45 minutes of ab work. Jesse

Hi Stayce: HIT is just what you described. There is a section in the book that also talks about negative movement. BTW, I would never consider your present ecercise routine as quirky. Whatever works for you is just fine. There's never anything wrong with having fun while working out. Jesse

I think I've seen that book but never read it. With HIT is the idea is just to work to failure and then also toss in a few post fatigue reps? Does it matter if you do a traditional split or do they say to do full body? I've done a more traditional split that way before with my husband. We also do a thing where we sometimes focus more on the negative of the movement. Not sure if it is the same thing at the HIT concept. I have not trained like that since before my surgery but would love to get back to it again. I'm on a quirky compound movement kick right now and doing full body workouts. One of the more traditional lifters at my gym this morning was making fun of me for doing my foo fooey crunch on the ball with the combined free motion (cable machine) chess press. It's OK though.. I made fun of his singing voice. He was singing out loud to AC/DC with his head phones on while doing his standard no frills chest press. We have fun joking with each other all the time.
