Topic: RE: Almost there
Dawn, Welcome
If you look back a few weeks ago, you will see that I posted about my flat ass. My butt is my worst muscle too. I have tried a lot of things but to no avail. I blame my flat ass on genetics. That being said, I still work the butt and thighs pretty hard.(because they are such a largest muscle group). For the butt, I suggest the "butt blaster" machine (provided your gym has one) The other thing I do is lie on my back with my foot on the bench, I lift my back off the ground...this may be called bench bridges.. but I dont know. As for the thighs, nothing is better than old fashioned squats....Good Luck

Topic: Almost there
I have got most of my body looking good. Just found this board today and was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for my butt and thighs? I have a very physical job and have built up my arms, calves, back muscles and abs. I have very good muscle tone in all those areas, but can't seem to build up tose two problem areas.

Topic: Real Men Do Yoga
I mentioned this book in a post a week ago This past weekend I bought a book called: Real Men Do Yoga. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0757301126/104-1689330-0122359?v=glance Eddie George (Heisman trophy running back from Ohio State) in pictured on the front cover. Yoga is becoming more popular among professional athletes (NBA,NFL,NHL,Golf...etc.). My wife has practiced for years and I always thought of it as a "chick thing".
Guys "lift" and women "stretch" In January I started practicing Yoga. Around the same time she started getting serious about lifting. We have both benefited from the crossover. There are several types of Yoga. I practice basic yoga that helps you strengthen and stretch your muscles to enhance your other activities. I do yoga twice a week(Monday & Friday). Yoga helps me lift more, run further and recover faster. This book confirms my passion for Yoga and how men can benefit from it.

Welcome fellow Buckeye. I am in Hilliard. The previous post from Earl and Stacie gives great advice. Like Earl said, check out the OSU support group. I had my surgery at BTC in Groveport but I felt very welcome at the OSU support group meeting. Good Luck.BTW, I belong to the YMCA and like it because I travel and there are YMCA locations everywhere. They also have Yoga there.

Just my opinion.... I would look into signing up at a gym for a trial membership that doesn't cost anything and see if you like that first. Most gyms you can go to for at least 1 workout and some 1 month to 30 days. Worse case scenario you pay for a day pass a few days in a row. For some people the classes can big a big motivator and in a good gym its nice to have pros around to ask questions as well as experience get to experience more variety. So many great things to try out at no matter what size you are today.
What is most important is that you do something you enjoy and that you do planned activity consistently. When you stop enjoying it then just keep on going right along and find an alternative or add some new things to change up the routine. If you think you like the treadmill better after you try out the gym then go for it! You know yourself best and whathn will motivate you to keep getting back on that treadmill or in the gym.
Good Luck!

Hey all..
I am so glad to find this board..I have been thinking about buying a treadmill. I have several reasons: the cost of gas to and from the gym, the accessibility during the winter months and the sheer fact that I love to walk and had a lot of success with a previous treadmill....here is the thing, I already have a nordic track, total gym and a leg shaper...but I haven't been able to use them due to my size right now.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Treadmill vs joining a gym?? I have been riding my bike outside but soon, after my surgery I won't be able to do that for a while I assume and want to make sure I am exercising.
Oh, I noticed quite a few are from Cols too...GO BUCKS!!!!

Hi Becca - Welcome to the best board on OH!! I use to have a Bowflex but sold it. Just ended up being a glorified clothing rack. However, when I did use it, I got a fairly decent workout. I just tend to prefer using free weights or if in the gym, plate loaded equipment and occasionally add some machines. The Bowflex is a great home unit and very fluid. It is pretty easy to move from one exercise to another. Your best bet is to follow the full body circuit they give you that comes with the Bowflex. Your son should have an instruction manual or you might be able to download it from here -
www.bowflex.com
You should do that circuit 3 - 4x a week depending how much time you have plus also add in your regular cardio with that. Take it easy though and build up since you are just a couple months post op. Forget worrying about one body part or another. Focus on your body as a whole. Dropping fat all over and building muscle all over is what will yield the best results.
Read this too when you get a chance:

Matter of fact her whole website is very very good!

Hi All!
Okay, I had surgery (open) on 1Aug05. I'm down 43 lbs. I feel fantastic. I'm wondering if any of you could give me a basic workout to do (my son has a Bowflex so I'd like to use that). My upper arms are my main concern. Secong to the arms would be just overall toning. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
