Topic: New Name, New Routine
Ok, changed my name for the third time.
Second, it is exactly two weeks from my physical abilities test with the highway patrol...so I'm gonna drop the weight lifting and focus on pure cardiovascular workouts. I'm up to running almost a whole mile. After 6/10 of a mile I'm talking to myself, telling me I can do it. 7/10 of a mile I'm walking. So I'm sure I'll make it to a mile, even though running a mile is not required. I have to run 225 yards, twice and sprint 50 yds, twice. Well, hell, the entire circuit is actually running, so I'm just getting prepared.
Another reason I'm dropping the weights for right now is I need to lose the 10 pounds I gained since beginning the weight lifting program.
I'll be keeping up with ya'll and signing in ocassionally. Of course I'll definitely let ya'll know how the test went.
Am I cutting my own throat dropping the weights, now? Or should I wait another week?
let me know!
Thanks for all of the help you've offered,
Gisela

Wouldn't you figure I'd get hurt today at the BEGINNING of my workout? Yep, I did and it was such a stupid move. I was doing skullcrushers (don't know if that's the proper term, but that's what my friend calls them) and wasn't close enough to the end of the bench and the dumbbell kept hitting the bench so with the weight in the air I tried to scoot back using my shoulders. Pulled/pinched something. Can't hardly turn my head. Will see the chiropractor Monday. Tried to work it out, but that didn't work. Had to cut the workout short. Thank goodness I got my run in before this happened.

I'm sure I will look much different then I think and that already happens now. My brain just has not caught up to my weight loss. I guess that happens to most of us. I made the mistake of buying a pair of pants the other day that I thought would fit me and didn't try them on. When I got home I was able to pull them off without even unbuttoning them!
Somedays it is really hard to believe that I have dropped almost 50lbs already. I wonder if I will still have those days when I am more of a "normal" healthy weight. I'm sure I will. I was just telling a pre-op patient today that the surgery doesn't include a lobotomy ... the emotional/behavioral/body image part takes plenty of work too!!
My husband said the sweetest thing to me when we were walking the dogs last night. He said I already look like a different person from behind!!!
Hahahaha.. how great is that!

Hi Gisela -
Pretty nifty.. you started from about the same place I started. I'm 5'4 - started at 281lbs. Congrats on being at a nice healthy 145!! I can't wait to catch up over the next year and hear more about your journey.
I enjoy walk/jog/running as well especially now some of the weight is off and my joints rarely hurt. I do a lot of interval training and resistance training. Nice workout routine!!!
I do about 80 - 100 grams of protein a day. I still supplement with a post workout protein shake. I usually drink the Achiev One Coffee lattes from bariatriceating.com (20 grams of protein with a caffine kick) and the rest I get from mostly dairy - cheese, eggs, skim milk, cottage cheese. Occasionally I also do chicken or turkey burger but I'm not a big meat person. I also like the morning farms and other veggie products - veggie burgers, etc. I just started adding in a little more carbs too. My surgeon is really big on still doing carbs and I also feel better having some in my diet. I eat pasta, whole wheat pita, kashi go-lean cereal (which also has good protein in it) or whole grain bread. This morning for breakfast I ended up having a PB&sugar free J on whole wheat. I can still only eat about half of it right now. Bread fills me up so fast.

Thanks! How dare people go on vacations and not take me =p
Actually, I'm headed to Chicago to visit my brother and see my soon to be new sister-in-law in September. I took off one day for that so should be fun. I'm saving my vacation time for the holidays so we can go to San Jose, CA to visit Dana's family. It will be fun to see what kind of reaction I get from them. I should be another 40lbs down by then and lots more muscle!!
