Topic: RE: Laporscopic Explatory Surgery
I was having little aches on my lower left side for months but it just felt more like a kidney infection type feeling and it didn't HURT, and it would just come and go randomly for a second or two each time.
I also started having a 'lump in the throat' feeling that kept getting worse, even though I could still breathe and swallow fine, it just always felt like I had a golf ball in there that I needed to swallow to clear my throat.
I finally went to my surgeon and they did a CAT scan and he figured I had an internal hernia so we scheduled outpatient surgery to take care of it.
I ended up spending 4 days in the hospital because it turned out that I had scar tissue AGAIN on the exit hole of my stomach, AND my small intestine below my stomach exit was swollen to the size of an apple, blocked with food!
So they had to take care of both of those issues at once.
Now I'm having the same symptoms 2 weeks later and I think it's doing it again!
I'm constipated (going on 5-6 days now), smelly gas, the small aches in my stomach pouch area are back again (lower left side), and the lump in my throat feeling is back.
I do NOT want to have surgery AGAIN, but I'm guessing I probably will.
My advice is to see your surgeon ASAP and insist on at least a CAT scan or ultrasound and they can do 'exploratory' surgery like my surgeon did (and look what he found!). Because there is SOMETHING wrong and they need to look in there and fix it before it's too late!

Topic: RE: SEVERE Hypoglycemia
On top of something being wrong with your sugar levels, it also almost sounds like you're having anxiety attacks to go with it.
That would be totally understandable considering how horrible the episodes are and it would be expected that your brain would start triggering anxiety attacks due to the fear of the episodes happening.
I'd definitely suggest it to your doctor and have them find SOME kind of meds that can at least help with the anxiety. Xanax or Klonopin would at least help you stay calmer, which may make the symptoms a lot easier to deal with.

Topic: RE: My Daughter is having problems from Rny on Wednesday
Did they say they were going to DO anything because of the leak? They shouldn't even let her out of the hospital bed and should get her into surgery ASAP.
They can do the tests to see the leaks just like they do right after you have the surgery before they'll let you go home!
Get her to the ER where the surgery was done right away and INSIST on her surgeon dealing with it!
They're the specialists and they know what they're looking at, where another surgeon won't!
She could get sepsis or worse from a stomach leak and die and it doesn't take long.
GET HER IN THE HOSPITAL NOW!!!!!
Good luck and I'll be praying for you both!

Sorry, I haven't checked out this forum in a while. I hope that you went to the doctor. If you did, what was the conclusion. Sometimes you will have to alter your medication. It could also be a hernia.

The Vitamin D3 is from Bio Tech and I open the capsule since in dry powder form and add to small amount applesauce, yogurt, or other food just put in mouth and swollow with water making sure to get all the resudue washed down. I take 3 of the 50,000 IU daily spaced evenly throughout the day. Cal Citrate is broken down into 2 doses during the day. Can not take iron in any form as it makes me very very sick so when anemic get iron transfusions. Have been told not to up the calcium as of yet when I see rheumatologist at UCLA end of month there will be a couple tests done at the time as the specialists at UCLA are all working together Bariatric specialist, endocrinologist. rheumatologist, and gastroenterologist.. I have another appointment with endocrininologist october 4 along with gastroenterologist.
If after seeing everyone and more tests done there is some talk of consult geneticist.

You are definitely very complicated but I can tell you that secondary hyperparathyroidism is due to 2 things, low vitamin D and not taking enough calcium,. You list that you are taking 1000mg of calcium citrate once daily. First off,we can't absorb more than 650mg at a time and then we need to take a minimum of 1500-1800mg per day atleast 2 hours apart and not within 2 hours of your iron or thyroid medication. With your high PTH, I would go at the upper end of the range or higher, more like 1800-2000mg per day, either 600mg 3 times per day or 500mg 4 times per day.
The vitamin D= are you taking Dry D3 from vitalady.com? If you are taking the little green gelcaps then that is why you arent' absorbing it.

Topic: RE: Intestinal Spasms! Help pls
I get terrible abdominal spasms as part of my IBS - irritable bowel syndrome. My doctor gives me Hyoscamine .375 - or levsinex - it is a stomach muscle relaxer. It works really well. Sometimes when I am really bad I will take 2 at a time.
Topic: RE: Numbness and loss of movement in foot
Do you have copies of your labs? If not, ask for them. Many times we are told that we are normal when in fact we are too low in some areas and with foot drop and nerve damage in your feet, you really need to be vigilant about your vitamin B1 and B12 - it really isnt' related to B6. Too much B6 can become toxic and 300mg per day is a huge dose.
Try to get copies of your B1, B6 and B12 levels. B1 you want to be at the top of the range, B12 you want to be between 1200-1500 and can go up to 2000, below 500 puts you at risk for nerve damage. B6 you want to be in the middle of the range.
