If you're having stomach pain and cramping along with this, it could be ulcerative colitis. Don't talk to your bariatric surgeon about this. Talk to your regular doctor and insist that they refer you to a specialist. There is medication a specialist can prescribe to give you some relief and to stop the bleeding and diarrhea.

It isn't likely that's it's related to your surgery so just because it happened post-op doesn't mean it's because of the surgery you had. Hope that makes sense.

It can be caused by stress though, and I'm sure since you've had the weight loss surgery, you've been plenty stressed out.

If your doctor refuses to listen to you and doesn't refer you to a specialist, file a malpractice suit.

Topic: RE: Laporscopic Explatory Surgery
I had my RNY in Oct 2008 and in Jan 2009 started having pain.  I felt like my insides were being eaten away - swore I had an ulcer but after 2 EGD's, CT scan, ultrasound, Upper GI, colonoscopy, MRI, reflux testing - they found absolutely nothing.  The pain radiated throughout my entire abdomen and at times was so severe I couldn't stand it.  I couldn't sleep and made eating really tough.  After 5 months, I finally had exploratory surgery in May of 2009.  Well, I had severe adhesions in 4 areas of my stomach - new pouch, blind pouch, 2 areas of intestines.  The adhessions were so bad that they caused my bowels to kink up and there was a 1 inch hole in my intestine. Luckily they caught the hole in time - if left longer would have become a full fledged hernia.  Afterwards, the pain was completely gone and I am still pain free.

Katrina,

How are you doing now?  Did you have the exploratory surgery?  What did they find?

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

Julie,

What is going on with you?

I am very curious as I am seriously considering a reversal.  I just don't know that it will help.  *sigh*

I know you have been through a lot like me.  Thank you for answering.

I'm leaning towards a reversal too.

Julie had a reversal.  I was watching her journey b/c she had many problems like I did. I was hoping the reversal would "fix" her but it didn't.  She was having more problems and was in the hospital the last time I checked in on her.  You can follow my latests posts to find her or go back a couple of pages.  She is on other threads that relate to reversals.

I wish you good health!

 Hi,

Have you posted this on the VSG board? There have been people with leaks and other complications. Some took months to resolve but most of those folks have said that even with the complications they'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Best of luck on your decision.

Topic: RE: Unexplained Pain on Left Side
Kathryn,

Did you ever find out what was causing your pain. I have had the same type of pain for a year now. Some weeks are better than others. I even had to go on sick leave for 2 months because I just couldn't function I was in sooo much pain. i was in and out of the hospital 3 times and had numerous tests as well.

Please share any updates you may have. I am living overseas right now, due to military assignments so we don't have the best doctors or even doctors that speak great English. So I am really needing something to talk to the doctors about.

Thanks,
Brandy
