No it's not because of the protein, it's because of all the hormones that are trapped in our fat cells that are being released as we lose weight.
Also I know for myself if it were all protein I would have bald as a baby's ass before WLS and only now would I be growing hair.

Try adding Biotin to your vitamins--I take 5,000mg a day it will NOT make your hair grow back faster but I will make the new hair a lot stronger...but know you'll be shaving your legs, armpits, etc.. alot more.

You can also try a cute short sassy haircut for a few months and coloring your hair thickens the hairshaft so you'll appear to have more hair.

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

Hi -- I think all of us are nervous, it's a protective instinct.

I'd love to see a chart of WLS stats next to one outlining outcomes of of things we do all the time:
drive a car, have an injury at home, have other invasive procedures.  Think about c-sections and coronary by-pass surgeries that happen every day.

Statistics only apply to populations, not individuals.  That can comfort or make anxiety worse - it's all in how one looks at it.

The way I've come to see it, life is a crap shoot.  Make the best educated guess/choice you can.

For me, having a surgeon I trust to really know me as best as s/he can is at the core of this.  I can't think of a situation where having trust in place is as important, other than childbirth.

If the candy cane limb was found why was it not removed?
If it was not removed you need to call your surgeon and demand that it be removed.  It could be very bad if this is just left there if it is twisted.

Topic: RE: Candy Cane Roux Syndrome

I have been researching this to finding out I have a candy cane roux limb of 5 cm.  I am two and a half years out.  A year ago December, I got really sick and had to be hospitalized...they had no idea what was wrong and sent me home...it has happened a few more times since...and I've had one exploratory surgery (after not eating for a few days).  So they found nothing.

I just had a scope done at Mass General in Boston and she found the candy cane limb.

There is only one article out there (one study) that I can find, and one person's story if you google it.  I am looking for info as well.  I am so sick of being sick all the time and vomiting after eating.  I'm anemic all the time, constipated all the time...and my pain goes up to a level 10 at times but no one will treat me because they don't know "for sure" what is causing the pain and because i'm a former "fat" person with food addiction issues, they think automatically I'm an addict and can't have meds.  I have wished that i would fall and BREAK something so that they would have to give me something for pain...how sad is that????????

I am hoping now that I have these reports that my original surgeon will help me.  Other than that...I'm not sure what to do.  I don't want a reversal...I just want to be well.  I feel like I"m going to pass out all the time.  And yes, I dump VERY badly after certain foods...so I know the difference.  I actually appreciate my dumping syndrome because if I could eat ice cream, I'd be in big trouble :)

So if anyone has any information, please please please share.  I'm in New Hampshire and it's only been an active weight loss hospital for five years.

Thank you!
karen

I am a little late in responding to this - try to check this forum often, but have been too sick the past week or so.
What I will say is that most people don't have complications, but some do and for them they can be horrid. Mine are bad enough that I wish every day that I had NEVER had surgery. I was actually a healthy fat person - I just wanted to be skinny.
I am skinny now with bleeding ulcers and chronic severe anemia. I have been in the hospital more times in the past year then in the prior 45 years of my life. If I had a choice, I would go back and undo it.

Hi,
I wonder how much of it has to do with anesthesia as well.  I have had issues with calories/protein, but I have also had 5 surgeries in less than a year and my biggest losses in hair has always followed surgery.  I know there are things that people swear by that you can take, but they are expensive.  I can tell you from many bouts of this that it does slow down/stop and you will start to see the little baby hair starting to grow back soon.  Hang in there!

Hi Cher, My hair started to fall out at 4 months too...I was told it was because of lack of calories not protein.  THere is really nothing you can do about it but wait it out.  Mine fell out for about two months, now it seems fine and is growing back.  I was freaking out about it at first though, I was plugging up the drain after every shower.
