Topic: RE: I WANT A REVERSAL!
I regretted having RNY at first. I was super depressed and sick all the time. I felt like I was dying inside. I lost alot of my personality like I wasn't laughing and joking. I just wasn't myself at all but now I'm 3 1/2 mths out and couldn't be happier. And I also was nausea all the time. Are you eating to fast? I ate to fast and that made me nauseas. For the nausea I drank Apple juice and water 1/2 & 1/2 it helped alot. My doctor says it's a natural remedy for nausea. Have you tried Crystal light? That helped me get my water down. It does get better. I feel great now and don't regret it at all.

Wow Butterlfy, I am so terribly sorry for all you have been through. My daughter had very similiar issues. She lost count of number of surgeries she has had since she became septic from intestinal obstruction.
She was two years out from her RNY and thought she was having female problems. She was in the hospital over 4 months one time with several weeks spent in ICU. She has had numerous hernia repairs and infections since that time. She has short gut syndrom and for a while she had to wear a vac pac more than once. She is now on disability. She struggles to keep her weight up around 135. She had gotten as low as 122. She spends an awful lot of time in the bathroom.
I will keep you in my prayers.

Topic: RE: How do you know if your band has slipped?
She may not have had a slip, she may just be too full from the last fill. She needs go to her fill doc and get checked out and unfilled. Sometimes if there is a slip just letting all the fluid out for a few weeks and going on liquids will allow it to go back into place. Myself, I was just totally occluded and had not had a slip. I think my stomach may have migrated up under the band, then it would go back down, but it got so bad it just stayed swollen closed. I had to give it up, that does not mean your mom will. She does need to see her fill doc soon.

Topic: RE: Ulcers
Well I have not gone back into the hospital and have been doing well. Taking the Pepcid and Carafate that they prescribed and have had no further bleeding. I had my follow-up appointment with my surgeon and he said it was likely that the ulcer was an area that was not healed and not caused by acid, but to continue the medicine anyway. I feel much better and I look much better (was very pale before).
Glad to know that I am not the only one out there that this happened too! Hope you are doing well also and Happy New Year to you!

Oh my God! The EXACT same thing happened to me. The only difference is that I only had the 2 units of blood before the endoscopy and nothing after. I can't believe this happened. How scary huh?? I hope that the complications are behind us and we will be able to LOVE OUR RNY!!
Happy New Year to you!! Keep me posted on how you are doing. I was in the hospital for 4 nights then went home for 9 nights and then went back to the hospital due to the bleeding for another 8 nights.
Topic: RE: PICC line and TPN
Hiya...I have a PICC line and am on TPN at home. I started it in October and will continue to be on it through February. I have had ongoing issues with ulcers since 6 weeks post op. I am now 15 months post op. My only other option at this point is reversal and that is something that I'm not willing to do. So, we put in the PICC and started the TPN in an effort to super boost my protein levels.
Feel free to PM me or ask any questions...I am also a nurse so, hopefully I can be of some assistance.

it will get better and yes it sucks!! But didnt you know it was going to be like that when you had the surgery? It eventually gets a little bit better. The best thing you can ever do is to stop doubting yourself and stick it out.

Topic: How do you know if your band has slipped?
Hello,
My mom is 9 months post-op lap band and for the past two weeks she is not able to keep down anything, sliming even when she drinks a sip of water. She is constantly in the bathroom. I feel so bad because she is down from Oregon visiting me and she feels like crap! Her last fill was Nov. 15th and she was at 7 1/4 cc's. Has this happened to anyone else? What do you do if your band has slipped? HOw do you know? Please help!!!

Topic: RE: NESIDIOBLASTOSIS hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia?RYGB
Yes, my sugar levels spiked and then dropped every time I ate, no matter what it was. If I ate less than 14 gms of any type of carbs per meal, my blood sugar levels didn't rise too high and only dropped into the 40s or 50s within an hour to three hours.
What you're describing sounds more like reactive hypoglycemia, which you may be able to control by diet. Nesidioblastosis caused by weight loss surgery may well be more common than thought originally. From the discussions I had with my endocrologist and surgeon, though, other things can cause hyperinsulinic hypoglycemia...like your body not figuring out that you've lost bunches of weight, so it is still pumping out the same amount of insulin that it was previously producing. I have heard of RNY patients that were reactive hypoglycemic for two or three years following their surgery and then their symptoms disappeared. My guess when that happens is that their body just took a while to figure out that they were smaller. With Nesidioblastosis, the unstable blood sugar is separate from, but affected by, diet. The body just can't regulate itself because of the hyperplasia of the beta cells in the pancreas.
If my symptoms could have been managed by diet, I would never had the operation. The operation to correct the nesidioblastosis (having 3/4s of my pancreas removed along with my spleen in a 7 1/2 hour operation) was horrible...I thought I knew what to expect because I had an open surgery when I had the gastric resection and my gall bladder removed (at the same time) but I bounced back quickly from that operation - not from this one. I'm still experiencing pain, I'm continuously nauseous, and we won't even talk about when my bowel is blocked (my major complication following surgery). However, even so, I am happy to be able to think again and get back on with my life.
