new radios coming, I'm confused!!!
According to our new IT guy, the new highband radios should be in place June 1... we are beginning the changes already.. no longer using 10 codes , which can get awkward while searching for the right words (like our 10-101, is suspect in hearing distance, how do you say that subtly???) the officers each have a number now, now we have to learn them all, before they went by car number. police is going to be the easier to learn.. fire will be killer, we now have to monitor 10 firegrounds for working incidents, up from 2!!! I am sure in the end most of the changes will be for the better, but after 3 years, changing is hard.. I can't imagine how difficult it will be for those who have been here longer, one guy has been here 25 years!!!
I am hoping I find a new job before I have too much hassle with it, or that they move me, so I can work harder on learning it all!!!
HI Brianna,
Just a quick idea regarding the "suspect in hearing distance" question....I use the phrase, "secure for info?" and/or "secure to copy?".....to alert the officer in the field if there is a warrant, etc. Some departments have an "alert tone" ( I think our state police have that---at least they used to when I went thru their training academy many years ago) that will let the officer know the name check that was run is coming back with warrants, etc.
How's everything else going on with you? I'm on furlough for another week, then it is back to the insanity!!!!
take care,
Paula
HI Paula,
What a great suggestion.. I wil lhave to remember that! How was your long break? I hope you were able to enjoy it all!
Things here are pretty much the same, although the sleeping is getting worse.. it is my first day back and I am wiped out. I have been slowly looking for a job, hoping and praying they follow through with the "we're working on it" but I think I have to pick up the search, this is just killing me. It is a shame too, I really like what I do.. and if I do say so myself I am not half bad at it. I'll keep you posted
What are the new radios, do you know?
We got new radios about 18 months ago and now they are upgrading to Zetron 640...sposed to be better.
A phrase I use for that situation is "are you clear for traffic?"
Also our agency uses a 10 code for that (no other 10 codes, just for that cir****tance).....if there is a warrant we would say "Title 10 F-Frank " and wait for the officer to say "go ahead" before proceeding.
I have no idea what kind of radios they are, they aren't even training us on how to use them, yet the cops in the field are currently being trained! it is so dumb, they just say, here use them! They installed phone looking things in case the radios fail, we can use them, but they haven't shown anyone how to use it, that or the new Mobile Data units that will be compatible with the CAD (when they finally get that in place) We are just told to figure it out as we go along.. guess they don't care much about officer safety!!!
I am glad I am looking for another job!! Sheesh!
