I wanna move! I have had itchy feet for years now and I really want to move. Knowing I will have to find a job in dispatching in a new area, I figured what better place to post this! So tell me what is so great about where you live - and tell me the things you dislike about it! How are the wages compared to the cost of living? How is YOUR work environment? Dina

Ecomomicly NY sucks, but I would live anywhere else. Four seasons to live in, no natural disasters, and the bugs here arent big enough to eat anything but other bugs. I have traveled the whole world and you cant find people Like here in Elma either. Happy state hunting!!!

I live in a small town here called Memphis in NE Missouri population here is just over 2,000. The ambulance service here has around 450-500 runs a year, but a damn good crew. payscale (est.) here is $17,000 yr for EMT's and $23,000 for Medics. The dispatchers work out of the Shariff office. They do not dispatch the ambulance, the nurses do that. I am not for sure what they make. We are going to try to get our dispatching put into the sheriff office. The nurses don't answer the radio half the time. One day it will bite them on the ass. Alot of farm land around here. I'm from NJ (Jersey Shore) move dout here in '89 and I have had the itch to move for a few yrs now. Advanges here: Small community everyone knows everyone, cost of living here is cheaper, housing is around $50,000 for a ranch style, last time I looked gas was $1.86 a gallon...Disadvanges: Everyone knows your business, "Rednecks" around here, lower payscale. Well I hope I answered some of your questons, Have any q's just ask Bill

The area that I live in is pretty rural with city life about 1 hour away. The people here are mostly wonderful. But as with any place, you have your crime, gossip, socialites, etc. Pay for TC's averages 20,000 year, with a little more for experience. My county gives raises yearly then the opportunity for a merit increase every two years. Housing averages about 45,000 for a good house in a good neighborhood. Gas here is 1.94/gal. We complain about it constantly. Hope that helps ya! Pam B. Dr. Grant 5/24/04 -19

I dispatch for a fire department that is landlocked by the city of Columbus. Our civil service department gives tests periodically (I think one may be coming up next year some time) so that you can be ranked on a list. You get extra points for military service. And you can be hired by either the police or fire departments. We will probably be having someone retire in the next year or so. But Columbus has a lot to offer. We have a world class Zoo (Jack Hanna made it what it is today), we have several theaters for plays (like Chicago, the Producers, etc.). We have a semi-pro baseball team (they leave here and go to the Yankees), we have professional hockey (if they ever get their deal done), four major venues for concerts, lots of little stuff, great festivals (Greek, Latino, Italian, The Circleville Pumpkin Show-Yum) and you are no more than maybe 2 1/2 hours from either professional baseball (Indians and Reds) or football. Everybody thinks the grass is always greener on the other side of the septic tank. But I used to live in Montana, and as beautiful as it is, it has nothing over Columbus. That's why I raised my kids here. We went to Cincinnati 4 times this year and once to Cleveland for ballgames. Oh, and 3 major amusement parks the closest within about an hour. The more I describe it, the better it sounds. Tami
