WOW....who knew???
Hi Everyone,
Who knew they would have a msg board for dispatchers?
It will be great to get to know some dispatchers from around the country.
I've been a Sheriff dispatcher for 13 years now and I'm just starting this process of WLS. I saw my surgeon yesterday and am hoping to get approved for the Lap Band. Good luck to all of you and I hope to make some new friends here.
Take care,
Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann - welcome to the board! Nice to see you peek your head in. :D
So what is life down in So. Cal like?
We have a retired Burbank officer working across the room for me for the dept of transportation as a dispatcher. He used to be one of the helicopter pilots down there and said he would also work in dispatch part time as well.
We were just talking about the cost of living down there and I wondered how someone in public safety could afford to live/work down there unless they bought a house years and years ago. Things are so doggone expensive it's incredible! We in So. Oregon are pulling up the rear about 1-2 years behind you guys in cost though so it's getting crazy here as well.
Dina

Hi Dina,
Well, to tell you the truth, I don't know any different. I guess it could be expensive to live down here, but I make decent enough money to "get by". Plus I get a little money from my ex, for child support. I am very lucky, I bought my house in 98 right before the cost of houses skyrocketed. I paid around 160,000 for my house then and now it appraises for over 400,000 !!
I just can't imagine trying to buy a house now. I am one of the fortunate ones.
As for my work, I'm a dork...I really enjoy my job. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. Matter of fact, I'm at work right now...
We finally got the internet here last year and it's just great for those occasional "downtimes".
Thanks for replying to my post. Hopefully I'll be posting my surgery date in the future. I just saw my surgeon Oct 7th, and have to make the usual appts with 3 more docs next week.
Take care and I'll chat with you again soon....
Mary Ann
P.S. Time to go home...shift is over at 2200

Hello there...nice to meet you.
I keep hopping back and forth between this board and the Ca one. I'm just your typical "newbie"...becoming TOTALLY OBSESSED with this surgery thing.
I'm meeting so many nice people and learning sooooo much. Thanks for saying hi and I just can't wait to hop on that "wild rollercoaster ride" like all of you.
Take care,
Mary Ann
