Went to Metabolic Research Center today!!
After seeing the Doctor yesterday and him not sounding very in favor of me having Bariatric surgery, I went today to Metabolic Research Center, in Dothan and they were super! Full of energy, supportive and explained everything in full detail. They even offered to let me come back with my husband if I felt like he would question the expense. But, it wasn't as bad as I thought. One joining fee and a fee for 24weeks to give me to reach my goal, and then 1 year maintenance after that. (Each person's goal time is based on their needs and weight) They take measurements, blood pressure and check ketosis. (Burning fat) The scales show BMI, and what percentage of your body is fat vs lean and how much that fat actually weighs! It's amazing. Then, of course they try to sell you their herbs and vitamins to boost your metabolism based on your own body chemistry. I did purchase the Metabolic appetite control & Women's vitamins. But considering what I was paying a week on Weigh****chers and their website, I don't see where I'm spending anymore than I already was, and I get the maintenance free for a year. They help you with your menu's every week, check vitals & measurements every few weeks. It's real food and what I normally eat, just combined in different methods and restricted amounts. I talked with a co worker who has been successful on it, and he swears he's never hungry, and now that he got to the ketosis or fat burning stage, he doesn't crave sweets and carbs. I don't think the price was really that bad considering they offer different classes too, and different training, cooking classes and support groups. REALLY impressive.
So, yes, I'm giving it a shot right now. Got to do something~

I have decided it is something I am going to do. I think I have a friend talked into joining with me too. I've already joined. I called them back last night. And insurance MIGHT reimburse me if my doctor helps out and show medically neccessity. I'm going to talk to him next week. But either way, I'm doing it. I've got to try!

Sherri -
This sounds likea wonderful plan and the extra help will probably help keep you on track. I know it's probably not a strict low carb like Atkins but it sounds like some sort of low-carb if they are checking ketones. I can vouch for the fact that while in ketosis, I was never ever hungry. It's a wonderful thing, ketosis is. The problem for me (I was 338 at my highest) was that while I did Atkins and felt great on it (after the induction crud which makes you feel like a freight train hit you for about the first whole week), and I essentially reversed my diabetes, I was still able to out-eat it. My appetite was too large even for Atkins. I wasn't hungry, it's true. But when I did eat, I would still eat too much. But I loved how I felt on it. And I do know many many people who have lost a lot of weight doing low-carb and have kept it off. So something combined with a good eating plan that has the same benefits that I observed with Atkins, and professional help along the way is just wonderful. I'll bet you do wonderful on it and with the maintenance plan, it's an even bigger bonus.
I hope you stick around here and keep us updated on your progress. I would love to see how you are doing on this. My friend at work started dieting around the time I had surgery and she has lost well over 100 lbs herself. She wants to lose another 50 or so. She has done wonderfully jus****ching her intake and I'm so proud of her. I know how much discipline it takes.
Congratulations on taking this first step toward a new you. However you obtain the goal, I'm in your rooting section!
