just curious, after reading Paula T's post about taking 750 calls every 30 min, I was wondering what kind of volume is the average for everyone? i work in a small count, 120,000 people, we are 911/non emergency communications for most of the county PA State Police has their own dispatcher as well as our main city, Lebanon city , has their own dispatch, but we do fire, ems, haz-mat for all of the county.. We average between 300-400 calls a day, emerg and non. Fire and EMS dispacthes vary greatly... so, we aren't very busy compared to some ie Chicago but it is a living! brianna

AAAAHHHHHH, But what I DIDN'T tell you is that there are a whole lotta calltakers taking those calls.......and I only do radio dispatching.....VERY seldom do I answer 911 calls.....(unless they threaten me with bodily harm LOL) When I worked for a small suburban PD, I was actually doing a whole lot more work.....everything from writing up bond receipts and matron duty to (and I am NOT joking) cleaning out the litterbox for our station kitty cat......(and yes, the little creep would actually take a bite out of any donut sitting on the radio console if you weren'****ching!!!) I actually miss working in a smaller department. If you needed time off, you just asked someone to trade with you, etc.....not all the hassle we have now. Paula

Paula, that would be cool, only do one position. We are so small, things are set up that no matter if you are on phones, PD or Fire/EMS you can do everything from all positions... I have been on PD dispatching EMS so many times it isn't funny, while handling the PD traffic too. Brianna
