When you grew up??? I don't know of any kid who says I want to be a dispatcher when I grow up... so when you were little what was your dream??? Are you happy with being a dispatcher, if you could change careers, would you and to what field? For me, I wanted to be a teacher or a vet (too squeemish for vet ) I enjoy dispatching way more then I ever thought I would, but to be honest, I would still like to be an elementary level teacher....if the opportunity presented itself to go back to school, I would in a heart beat ( I graduated high school and went to work, so I would be playing catch up big time to go back at almost 40 ) Brianna

Hello! I wanted to be a choir director either at the High School or College levels. I went to college as a music major and enjoyed it until I had the opportunity to direct my church choir and hated it A LOT! I changed my major shortly afterwards and actually never finished my degree - ugh! I've thought about going back to college but with this schedule and the fact that I'm 43, it's not going to work! I also want to start excersizing more but that's not working either... lmao! If I could change careers now I'd go back to doing background investigations, I really enjoyed that job but had to leave it when I relocated back to NC (that's when I came back to dispatching)... I also think I'd like working in forensics... who knows... lol! I really really want to just win the lotto and not have to work, but we know that won't happen... we don't even have the lotto here in NC yet... lol! Have a great day! Sheryl

Well, I'll preface this with saying that I'm happier in my job now than I ever have been before. I finally feel like I've been able to put it in perspective and accept things as they are when I cannot change them. That made a huge difference for me. And my environment there is better than it has been in a long time. That is a huge component to a happy work environment. That being said, when I was young, I wanted to be a superstar! Who doesn't? I wanted to be a singer and possibly an actress. As I got closer to graduation I decided I wanted to be in journalism. I still think that would have been a fun occupation, but my opinion of the press has been compromised over the years of dispatching. Now if I were to change jobs, I think if I were to work for someone else, it would be in advertising/marketing. I think that is a place I could excel...I have a knack. If I were to own my own business, it would be to own a coffee shop and roast my own beans! Dina....I don't want much....

Well, honestly...... I wanted to be a broadcasting journalist or a photographer/journalist. My passion is photography, scrapbooking and such. But I can create most anything into a news-worthy event! Sherri

Well, when I was a little girl I wanted to be a fireman....but later decided on a police officer. I have absolutely no desire to be either of those now....no idea where those ideas came from. Now I think I'd like to be a lotto winner when I grow up....but if not I spose I'll just be a lowly dispatcher forever.
