just curious how many weekends off every one gets... with the way our schedule is set up, we only get every 6th weekend off, (working 6 on, 2 off) and it stinks. there are some of us wanting to change to 12 hour shifts, but it isn't looking good

We don't get weekends off at all. We work set schedules that basically never change....you either work Sunday-Thursday or Wednesday-Saturday. We work four 10 hour shifts and bid by seniority...the most senior person can have whichever shift they want until they no longer work there.

Hi Brianna, Sounds like we have the same schedule....6 on / 2 off....do you get the 3-day weekends, then? It is a rough schedule...but at least we are on permanent shifts...I can't imagine what it would be like if we had to rotate from midnights/days/evenings. Paula

you are right, 6 on/2 off is tough, that 6th day makes for a very long week.. how do you get 3 day weekends out of it? we never see those, just automatic overtime and yes, set schedules are much better then rotating.. my sister is a cop for the city and works 2 weeks of each shift... yuck but she likes it brianna

Hello! We get every other weekend off as a 3 day weekend. We work 12-hour shifts and I LOVE it! Also with 12 hour shift coverage seems to be easier and I love making my 3-day weekend into a 7-day and only taking 24 hours off... Good luck, it's soooo worth it in my opinion! We bid shifts by seniority so being 2nd from the top of over 20 I can have pretty much any shift I like. Still I work graveyard with Thurs-Sat off and go to work Sun-Wed nights (4-10 shifts). I rather like this schedule, so I have stuck with it for quite some time. I hate dayshift and would rather sling burgers than work during daylight hours. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like a rotating shift. I like knowing what my weekend is going to be several months from now without having to look at a calendar, and it makes it easier to sign up for overtime and schedule vacations. I see the purpose...gives everyone a chance for a weekend, but honestly, even if I only had Wed-Fri off, I would still rather have it set and know what I'm getting.... Dina
