Does your dispatch center use 10 codes or not? I know there are various codes for the same numbers, heck, our state police use different codes then what we use. Rumor has it that once we finally switch to the high band radio system we will discontinue using the 10 codes, which will be hard for some of the old timers, I am sure, heck even for me at 3 years it will be odd to speak 'English" over the radio... I am torn on if I like them or not, I see the use, keeping transmissions short, but on the other hand sometimes it is just easier to say what you mean (especially when dealing with new dispatchers or officers)

Hello! We use 10 codes and plain english... When I worked for San Diego County Sheriff's we used 10 codes, 11 codes, dispatch codes and California Penal codes. When I was in Oregon we used plain english, so it just depends on where you are. Also I've noticed that the codes are different depending on where you are. I work on a Marine Corps base now and the basic 10 codes are the same, but not all of them --- ugh! When I've work Fire/EMS we've always used plain english (no matter what state)... lol! I hope you're having a great night! Sheryl

We use a combination of both. It depends on the call. If it's something really common like a mva or a fire or fa call, I always use them. Some of the other codes are so obscure, that if I try to use them the patrols act like I'm speaking Swahili or something lol. Carol

We use some minor 10-codes, but have our own Signals and status's that we use. Sherri
