I haven't had my surgery yet, and i was wondering how soon you got back to work, and how did your job accept the fact that you were giong to be out of work for the time being?
Thanks -

Topic: RE: 10 codes???
We use a combination of both. It depends on the call. If it's something really common like a mva or a fire or fa call, I always use them. Some of the other codes are so obscure, that if I try to use them the patrols act like I'm speaking Swahili or something lol.

Sorry for the late post... I was a credit counsellor for a mortgage credit reporting agency for 7 years. I met a dispatcher at my friends wedding, went on a "sit-along" and caught the bug that night. 13 years later... It's been interesting to say the least...

Dina,
Best of luck! I'll go on the site and put my two cents in. I know when I worked at Beaverton PD we worked with the state police a lot of the time (I was there from 10/1993 to 7/2000) I still keep in touch with my PD friends there, they're the best!
Anyway, keep us posted please!

Topic: RE: 10 codes???
Hello!
We use 10 codes and plain english... When I worked for San Diego County Sheriff's we used 10 codes, 11 codes, dispatch codes and California Penal codes. When I was in Oregon we used plain english, so it just depends on where you are. Also I've noticed that the codes are different depending on where you are. I work on a Marine Corps base now and the basic 10 codes are the same, but not all of them --- ugh!
When I've work Fire/EMS we've always used plain english (no matter what state)... lol!
I hope you're having a great night!

Topic: RE: frustrated with work (rant/vent)
Dina, I have tried staying up till noon, and 3 or 4 pm, but nothing seems to help. (black out the windows, sleep masks etc) I am still very frustrated with certain things around here.. and I am working with my Dr on the sleep issue, he has me taking Ambien now... but it isn't helping either... although I get 4 or 5 hours sleep instead of 3-4.. still not enough for me, and I am still very run down. All I can do is say I have tried, I really have, but this overnights is just not working for me. Hopefully next time I see him (later this week) he will give me a note stating I can't work overnights for health reasons.. I detest 4-12 shift, but at this point I would welcome it so I could sleep at night
I try not to let things effect me, and to concentrate on doing my job the best I can but being Alt Shift leader and being in charge of someone who is totally incompetent it is difficult (the office, in their infinite wisdom, chose not to fire him during his probationary period because he was looking for another job, he has been looking since shortly after he started and can't find anything, or doesn't get hired, and now they will have a hard time getting rid of him, because they choose not to follow up on write ups, and drop the ball at every turn) The basic phone skills escape this man, it is very frustrating!!
Thansk for the support! Y'all are great
