Topic: What did you want to be.....
When you grew up???
I don't know of any kid who says I want to be a dispatcher when I grow up... so when you were little what was your dream???
Are you happy with being a dispatcher, if you could change careers, would you and to what field?
For me, I wanted to be a teacher or a vet (too squeemish for vet
)
I enjoy dispatching way more then I ever thought I would, but to be honest, I would still like to be an elementary level teacher....if the opportunity presented itself to go back to school, I would in a heart beat ( I graduated high school and went to work, so I would be playing catch up big time to go back at almost 40
)

Topic: turnover????????????
We all know how stressful being a dispatcher can be, and the turnover is high... I was curious how long people stay where you are... since I started 3 years ago (Feb 3is my 3rd anniversary) I have seen 20 people hired, most of which are all gone now..I think 6 not including me, and last year we lost 4 "vets" We just hired 3 people but I am sure 2 of the 3 will be gone before 6 months is over... and that is just your relatively easy training.. they don't actually hit the "floor" until at least 6 months...we do have one an who has been there 20+ years, another 17, one 13 (he is on his way out by his choice) and the fourth highest has been there 12.. the other 16 people have been there 5 years or less
Of course those in large centers may not have the numbers, I was just curious

HI Sheryl.. I like when it is busy too, really helps time fly!!! But here it seems overnights are dead.... it is awful!
The holidays were great for me.. I hope yours were wonderful as well!
I love this board, I can whine and people know know what I am talking about (I hate having to explain my rants to my family
)

Hey Brianna, I've been working tonight so I'm here - it's been busy (I love it when we're busy, the time just flies by...) Anyway, I hope you had a great Christmas and New Years. I like this message board, it's nice chatting with other dispatchers.

Carol, I am sorry to hear you are under the weather too.. defintely something going around!!! We had 2 people call off today (different shifts, at least) goof ball I am , came to work sick the past 3 days, it is my long week, and if I call off, I lose overtime,and can't afford that, plus people got mad at me in Nov for caling off alot, I was really sick then, so now I say heck with it, if they want me here sick, I will be here sick! I work with a bunch of juviniles
anyway.. you are right about having others who know what we go through daily to talk to. it can be a great help!
feel better!!!

Sherri, I bet you are excited about your new job, even though it sounds like you have alot of work ahead of you, catching up on all those reports!
Sorry you are out of ketosis, but that is alot of inches to lose, so you must be doing something right!!! Good for you! I will be going shoping next week for some new items, I have got to retire some of the tents I keep wearing (I am too cheap for my own good when it comes to spending money on myself)
I have been feeling lousy lately too, nasty cold, (again, the third one since Oct) I went to the Dr today for pain in my arm, he says it is a repetitive motion injury, although I don't know what could have caused it.. still he has me taking tylenol and going to therapy starting tomorrow morning, I just hope it heals quick!
Good Luck on Monday.... I hope you are feeling better now, and can get back in to the losing stage soon!

I'm around, but not feeling too hot at the moment. You're right about the board though. It's nice to see it active. We all need to be able to interact with people who understand what our lives are like. I hope everyone's having a good night. I'm off to do the dishes and go to

Topic: RE: don't no how
I loved my job, but it is stressful. At times you will be bored out of your mind, and others you will be losing your mind in sheer caios!!
You need to just check with the local agencies around you and see what their job requirements are. Most do offer some sort of on the job training. There are more requirements at certain agencies than at others. But, all of those are acheived in time. Check around! Good luck!

Topic: RE: Where is everyone???????????
I've been sooooo busy! It's my last week in the Comm Center. Saturday night is actually my last night, and I start my new job Monday. I had to re-install everything I lost from my old computer crashing to this new computer, and tried to remember and retrieve any old addresses I might have had. I have also had a major upper respitory infection that has caused my asthma to act up again!! I ended up on antibiotics and PREDNISONE of all things to help with the flare ups, and guess what, that has thrown me out of ketosis! But, I've not gained any weight, and I'm down to 171. That is a positive. I had to train over in records Tues and Wed, and really didn't feel like getting on the computer when I got home. They are 3 months behind in traffic accidents and all of them from 2005 have to be turned into the State by Jan 30th!! So, I am doing those with another girl right now to get us caught up. Then, my permenant job will be typing CID and NARC's reports and helping when others get behind. I will also have to work the report window when that lady is gone to lunch, and sell people their reports when they come in. I really can't believe we still only charge $3.00 a report, but that's just my opinion. I think since most of them are repeat offenders and such that constantly owe us money, they could spare $5.00!!
Then my DH took me shopping today to get me some dress clothes that don't look like a band of gypsy's moved out of my pants!! Everything was way too big that I had. I have lost 6 3/4 inches in my waist. I've lost 5 inches in my hips. So, I think I'm doing good.
Just wanted to update you, and tell you I'm sorry I've not been on. It was heck without my computer, and then being sick afterwards just zapped me.
Sherri
