" just so you know.. when you shut down the highway my dinner got cold" i said..." im sorry to hear that... would you like to talk to the 7 yoa who watched her mom die or the lady that burned to death in the bus because she couldnt get out.... or tell her husband that his wife wont be coming him.... and ill be on my way to put your f*cking dinner in the microwave... " he said "'uh" i said "get off my phone and i have nothing to say to you".. people have no idea the things they do or say... help them... i have learned to pray every day... and make fun of at least 60 people in 8 hours

Here's what I love...
THANKS to CELL PHONES, everybody wants to report what they see and the lines get flooded for accidents, car fires, etc.
So, the lines go into the red and people are on hold all reporting the same thing. Then you get that one person:
"WELL! Good thing is isn't a REAL EMERGENCY!"
Then I ask: "Are you reporting an emergency?"
"Well, I WAS, but you probably already know about it by now!"
"Well then, what are you reporting?"
"There's an (insert your choice here - accident/veh fire/etc)."
"Yes, as a matter of fact we do know about it and the reason you were on hold for so long is due to the fact that EVERYONE has a cellphone, and we've just received about 200 calls in the last 5 minutes. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"
"Uh, no...I, uh...thanks."
"You're welcome and thanks so much for taking the time to call."

I thought I'd share a call that happened this week...
Tuesday morning started off with some calls about a possible "road rage/race" on a freeway here in Socal. Two black suv's were cutting in and out of traffic and one kept bumping the other in front of it. It bumped it one too many times though, swerved into the center divider and rolled several times.
Turned out, a man was chasing his ex-girlfriend. The guy had NUMEROUS priors, parole violations, had been in jail several times for various charges like spousal abuse, two counts of child abuse, etc. A real winner!
After he rolled his suv, the ex-girlfriend stopped, then pulled off at the next exit to get away from him. On top of his accident, a chain reaction of other little accidents happened behind it due to the curvy freeway and stopped traffic. Then we got a report of a solo "black truck" over the side of the freeway, with a smashed windshield, but on the OPPOSITE side. At first we all thought it was being reported by folks still half asleep or didn't know where they were, but we sent a unit to go check it out, just in case. You never know.
Sure enough, one of our officers gets over there and says, "I got an 1144 - roll the Coroner."
What? Huh?
When the SUV rolled, the battery came out of the engine compartment, blasted through the oleander bushes to the other side of the freeway, smashing through the windshield of the truck going in the opposite direction, killing the driver. The battery, destroyed and torn open from the accident, was leaking and acid was already eating away at he poor victim within minutes. The poor guy had just been minding his own business on his way to work when the 40 lb the battery came flying out of nowhere. Talk about bad timing or being in the wrong place at the wrong time!
In the meantime, Mr. Idiot, is taken to the hospital with a broken femur and after surgery is pretty much out of it. His parents call our office and are asking questions, and saying, "But we don't understand...?" Understand what? Your son was being violent, tried to kill his ex-girlfriend, rolled his vehicle endangering lots of other people in the process, and KILLED an innocent person as a result. What part don't you UNDERSTAND?

Topic: RE: Whoa! A dizzypatcher message board? Sawweeeeet!
Hi Angie,
This board's not always that active, but there's a good group of people here. I've been dispatching for a small dept in NJ for 2 years. I left and went to a different one for a few months, but now I'm back where I belong. I've got a great bunch of crazies to work with lol. It's not always easy, but I love it anyway. Welcome to the board. Hope to see more posts from you soon.

Topic: Whoa! A dizzypatcher message board? Sawweeeeet!
Hi all!
I just found out about this board by accident (thank you Paula T)
Been working for the state of CA for about 15 years, started as a dispatcher for CA Dept of Forestry a couple years ago and just went to CHP in August. I absolutely love it, everyone is fabulous and fun which makes it very nice, especially in this kind of job where stress can be high at times.
Good to see fellow company out here!
Ang
You may know where you are,
and God may know where you are,
but unless your Dispatcher knows where you are,
you'd better be on good terms with your God.

Hi Alexa,
I feel your pain.....hang in there and know that you have sisters and brothers out there who know what you are going through.
This job is a labor of love...either that or we are all nuts!
take care and if you ever need to talk, feel free to drop me a line.
Paula

Topic: work rant
i just got home from work..(911 side today). apprenlty according to my supervisor... im to blunt to callers.. ive had 2 complaints in 2 weeks.... one of which was a total lie... so the supervisor dismissed that one... she said i hung up on her and refused to help her... thank god for recorded lines... number 2 was an address that was givin "the side street in dania"... ok... well... there are tons of ally ways in that city...(we dispatch for 31 citys.. how on earth can i remember ALL the side streets in everycity) and the police dept that transfered it gave me an address in thier city...apparently taking 4 mins to get a good address is to long ( if it was life and death.. which a car accident with NO injuries isnt) i would have of course bypassed it and continued...so anyway.. im sure he was upset... so today at work i had to go to customer service class AGAIN... being nice to rude drunk people that think they are the ultimate power and the world revolves around them and only them gets exhausting... and thats what he was... rude and drunk... ohh well... tomorrow is a new day... thanx for listeing...

Topic: RE: Turned them down
Like you said, everything happens for a reason. It sounds like you were meant to meet this guy online. My best friend met her husband that way 8 years ago. I think you did the right thing for yourself by turning them down. The right job will come along soon. Have fun in your new relationship
