Welcome Sheryl!! It is great to see another dispatcher join us!!! This board is starting to see some real activity! We are always hiring where I work too.. never enough people and it seems that out of every hired group, half leaves within the first year (if not sooner) Again, Welcome, !

WOW, what a great starting wage!!! If only I lived closer, I would apply... and you actually have to live in the city, that would be a drawback for me, never liked the big city haha
Thanks for posting though it is interesting to see what others make!

Welcome Sheryl...glad to have another one jump on board. I think it's great this board is seeing more activity!
I was just looking at your profile and wow - you have done an incredible job! I have another 40 I'd like to lose but will settle for 20 before plastics. So did you do plastics or are you thinking about it still?

Topic: RE: Do you use EMD, EFD, or EPD???
We're only using EMD here. I think EMD is a good thing also, except when the caller doesn't let you finish your questions... ugh! (but that is with anything - right....lol). I think EPD and EFD would be cool but I'm on a military base and I can only imagine trying to get all the MP's trained. It was hard enough with EMD and the codes. lol!

Hey ya'll from Jacksonville NC...
I'm a 911 dispatcher and new to this website, this is too cool! I'll pass it on to my co-workers... I've been dispatching for about 13 years (3 different states) and as I read through the messages I could definately relate. Anyway, just a quick hello! Oh, and we're hiring too... (the proverbial swinging door ya know, but I think it's worse on base than out in town...)
Take care!!!

Guess I should have clarified that, yes, Emerg Medical, Emerg Fire and Emerg Police Dispatch protcols....
Topic: RE: Do you use EMD, EFD, or EPD???
I have to say that the only acronym I'm familiar with is EMD if you mean Emerg Med dispatch. Otherwise I'm not familiar with any of that. We are a secondary PSAP though, so no 911, fire or medical dispatching for us. Just police....

Topic: RE: Hiring!!
Well, considering it's for public safety I don't see it as advertising like someone who is trying to hawk their vitamins! And I for one would never complain about it. It's just too hard to find qualified dispatchers out there. We have to do whatever we can yanno!
Not a bad starting wage. I think the cost of living is a bit higher there than it is here, but not by a lot. If so, that's a pretty good wage! If I were single and wasn't settled in here I'd consider it. I always thought it would be cool to live in Chicago.

Topic: Hiring!!
Hi Guys,
I hope I'm not violating any rules or anything by posting this.....
Our 911 Center is hiring dispatchers and call-takers.....it would be great to have folks coming in that had some experience and could start working sooner than those folks that have to be trained from the very beginning of things.

OK, So.....if you know anyone who would be interested..........Send them our way........it's really not THAT cold here....

Topic: Do you use EMD, EFD, or EPD???
just curious how many of you out there use any of the emergency dispatch protocols... in our center we only use EMD at this time, but ther eis talk of gettin gthe EPD, and EFD also.. not a bad idea, especially when you have a high turnover (like we do, in the 3 years I have been here I have seen 18 new hires, and most of them are gon enow) This way you know the pertinent questions are gettng asked. While not prefect, I think the EMD is a good itdea......... thoughts???
