We have 24 females full time, and 2 females in training. We have 3 males full time, and 1 in training. We also have 1 male and female going thru background checks, physicals and all the hoops to get hired. When they get hired, we will still be 2 people shorthanded.
Our comm center answers the city switchboard, E911, after hours city utilities, dispatch police, fire, rescue and animal control. Our 3 major radio positions are Police, Info & Fire dept. But also have what we call "other" position that answers animal control during daytime hours, and all other city channels at night time. Usually during business hours we have 5 people on the floor, and we work 10hr shifts, 4 days on, 3 off. Thursday is our training day and special assignment day really, because everyone in the dept is scheduled to work that day. So, it's a bit crowed. Day shift is 0700hrs-1700hrs/ 2nd shift is 1500hrs-0100hrs, and my vampire shift is 2200hrs-0800hrs. It's worked out good for the busy hours. We rotate every month, so we each get every other month weekends off. This month, I'm off Mon, Tues & Wed. Work Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun. I am loving it. So far, no one has really complained about it.

I have decided it is something I am going to do. I think I have a friend talked into joining with me too. I've already joined. I called them back last night. And insurance MIGHT reimburse me if my doctor helps out and show medically neccessity. I'm going to talk to him next week. But either way, I'm doing it. I've got to try!

I know what you are feeling. There are no words to describe that helpless feeling we all get when we know we've got to help someone but can't get what we need to get the help there, or to get them there quick. I guess that is what really makes good dispatchers. I know that if I ever get to the point that something doesn't bother me, or I don't feel something for a situation that seems desperate, then I need to quit my job. You deserve praise for your passion & compassion!

Topic: Went to Metabolic Research Center today!!
After seeing the Doctor yesterday and him not sounding very in favor of me having Bariatric surgery, I went today to Metabolic Research Center, in Dothan and they were super! Full of energy, supportive and explained everything in full detail. They even offered to let me come back with my husband if I felt like he would question the expense. But, it wasn't as bad as I thought. One joining fee and a fee for 24weeks to give me to reach my goal, and then 1 year maintenance after that. (Each person's goal time is based on their needs and weight) They take measurements, blood pressure and check ketosis. (Burning fat) The scales show BMI, and what percentage of your body is fat vs lean and how much that fat actually weighs! It's amazing. Then, of course they try to sell you their herbs and vitamins to boost your metabolism based on your own body chemistry. I did purchase the Metabolic appetite control & Women's vitamins. But considering what I was paying a week on Weigh****chers and their website, I don't see where I'm spending anymore than I already was, and I get the maintenance free for a year. They help you with your menu's every week, check vitals & measurements every few weeks. It's real food and what I normally eat, just combined in different methods and restricted amounts. I talked with a co worker who has been successful on it, and he swears he's never hungry, and now that he got to the ketosis or fat burning stage, he doesn't crave sweets and carbs. I don't think the price was really that bad considering they offer different classes too, and different training, cooking classes and support groups. REALLY impressive.
So, yes, I'm giving it a shot right now. Got to do something~

Topic: RE: Consultation/Appointment today
I wi**** would work!! I have always been 5'2, but then at the Dr's appointment a few weeks ago he told me I was 5'1 when they measured me. So, that's why I went forward with the appt with the bariatric surgeon, hoping it would be enough. It's close, but he's still not 100% sold on trying it on me. That's fine, I'd rather know I have an honest Dr who is going to shoot straight with me. My husband was very impressed with him and his honesty. So, I think if I go forward with this Metabolic Research Center, and go back to him, it will put his mind at ease that I have not just given up and thought that WLS was an easy way out. I know there is nothing easy about WLS. It's a life change too, but it does give some help to the person trying.

I have not scheduled an appointment with his Partner. The nurse and the other Dr were going to look over my file and call me. So, I just feel like right now, to show I've tried something else after talking with them, that I'll go ahead and get started at the metabolic research center.
I intend on giving it my all, and if it doesn't work, going thru with RNY or Lapband one. Even if it's on my own dime.
