Topic: Question on merging
We are going through a possible merger with surrounding areas to form a dispatch center. I was wondering if anyone else had done this or they had plans. And if you've done it how did it go? We have a couple of people who are somewhat against it. We have been a small department who works 1 dispatcher a shift and a couple of us have been here for almost 40 years collectively.
Just wondering, thanks.
Topic: Test being Given
If anyone is interested, the City of Whitehall (Ohio) is giving a civil service test to form a list for dispatcher candidates. Below is a link that you can download the application.

Topic: Just quickly check in....no committment! LOL!
If you are just lurking and checking out the boards but don't want to respond to everything right now, just check in really quick and give a show of hands! I'd like to know how many of us pass by and lurk here!!!

Welcome to the board Carol! There are certainly enough of us checking in from time to time but no one who wants to come in regularly. Eventually we will hit our stride.
So glad to have you join us - I hope you have no problems getting approval for surgery. I know how you feel about being tired of being the fat dispatcher. It's so nice to not be the largest one anymore!
I started on a small department so I know exactly what you are talking about with it being slow and then being nailed to the wall. But hey - that's what it's all about, right? Feast or famine!

A board full of people who understand my job and my weight issues!
Hi all,
My name is Carol and I'm a dispatcher from NJ. I'm attending a new patient seminar on Aug 25. I've been contemplating surgery for a while and I think it's time to go ahead with it. I've tried so many times to lose the weight and it always comes right back on. Working midnights doesn't help at all. I end up eating all night if things are slow. We only have one dispatcher on duty at a time because it's a small town. There are usually only two or three patrols and myself to handle whatever comes up. That's fine most nights. But as you all know, when it hits the fan, you could have ten dispatchers working and still be shorthanded.
I've been joking with my DH that I'm tired of being the Fat Dispatcher and I want to be the Hot Dispatcher lol.
Well, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
Have a great night.
Carol
Topic: oregon911.com
Thought I'd post about a website a friend has put up for telecommunicators. It's oregon911.com and has a great message board to chat on. We have folks from all over join, so just because you may not be in Oregon, don't feel you can't join in.

That is too funny!!
I think I know that officer's cousin from Chicago!!!
A few years back we heard about an unusual foot chase. Not sure waht it was for, but they had already chased this guy for several blocks. The offender ran into a fairly large grocery store with the officers close behind. The dispatcher on duty during this told us how the officers were giving direction of flight info, "he's heading towards the produce section"...it was too funny!
