Hi Gwen!
I wish you the very best on your journey! I am so excited for you.
I had surgery on may 24th, right now, I am down 70 lbs. I amazed on a daily basis! I am finding bones that I was sure I had, but had never felt before.
Congrats on 25 years in this business!!!!!!!
Hope to hear more from you soon.......like as soon as you go to consult!
Topic: RE: Hello fellow dispatchers and ems folks!
Welcome Susan! Wow - lots of new folks coming in here. Maybe these boards will get busy again.
I've not been great about checking in lately myself.
Congrats on your upcoming surgery date. No doubt I will remember yours because that is my 11th wedding anniversary.
As for advice, well, be prepared to be weak and tired even up to 2-3 months out. You will have times of feeling incredibly energetic and wonderful, but then one day it will hit you and you will wonder what happened. It just does.
For me, I was out 8 weeks and when I went back it was okay, but I felt like it pulled on my incision to sit too long. I didn't peek to see if you are open or lap, but if I were done lap, I would have gone back a long time prior. But the weakness doe**** so just be prepared.
The hardest thing for me in dispatch has been being prepared for lunch. It was okay while I was new to eating the Weigh****chers Smart Ones dinners, but now I'm bored and sick and tired of them so I've been delving into sandwiches and that isn't great. Even though I go for low-carb bread and such whenever I can, I still haven't been entirely good, and my weight loss has slowed. Time to get cracking again!
Protein: I love the Carb Countdown milk and chocolate milk. It's higher in protein than the EAS AdvantEdge protein shakes (and many others) and tastes so amazingly close to the real thing, it makes it easy to get the protein in. I use the chocolate plain or take it to my coffee drive-through and get a mocha with it, or plain I get a latte or make myself a chai latte at work. Unjury protein powder works great for adding even more protein to those drinks. I get the plain and it works great to get more bang for your drink. I was doing 1 whole scoop (20 grams protein) with 1 cup of Carb Countdown milk (made for 32 grams of protein) when I had my chai latte's but found it was just a little too much protein, so I started cutting it in half.
I'm eventually going to start putting down recipes for us to get our protein in on my website, but until then, I'll just post what I can on the boards.
Glad you joined in - welcome to the board!
Dina

Hi Gwen! Nice to "meet" you! The board has been really slow lately but we wax and wane.
Congrats on your upcoming consult! I hope you find everything goes really smoothly for you. My insurance wouldn't pay, so I had to take it south of the border.
I'm close to 6 months out and battling to see 80 lbs (1 pound away ARGH!) down. I have another 95 to go from here.
While I'm here - how is everyone's holiday weekend going? Anyone else working a boatload of overtime? They can't call me in tonight though....because I'm already scheduled!
I was queen of the mva's last night, one being a fatal, poss end up double fatal and the other almost a fatal but miraculously the guy survived.
And people wonder why I don't travel on holidays!!!
Hope everyone has a mellow weekend. It's much better to be overstaffed waiting for tragedy than to be understaffed and coping with it!!!

Topic: Hello fellow dispatchers and ems folks!
Hi, my name is Susan Jackson, I am a 21 year old medic from Virginia. I have been in EMS since I was 16. I also am a dispatcher for a local ambulance company and medical helicopter. This is so great to find people to share with. I am having RNY and my scheduled date is 10-8-04. I am so excited. Any advice or anything you could give me would be great!
Topic: RE: Bill are you out there?
I'm still here, Rita is doing better -63 and counting. She is still weak, but getting stronger everyday. She is back to work now. Sorry I have not posted anything, the board has been so quite. We have an appointment with doc on the 17th, he should release her for soft foods. She is in that straw stage and she is sick of it. Been busy with paramedic clinicles this summer.

Welcome Amy! We've been dormant for a little while, but maybe you can help stir things up!
Congrats on your upcoming surgery. No more dispatcher spread for us guys, huh?
BTW - I assume your area has those gorgeous fall colors like the rest of the east, right? ::swoon:: I could live in that state forever!
