Topic: RE: Health or no, I am outta here!
Hey Brianna,
That really sucks about your schedule. I know what it's like when they're "working on it". That's what they were doing with my FT job for 2 years. It definitely gets old after a while. Some people just can't work midnights. I'm pretty much the opposite, I am soooo not a morning person. I like the 4-12 shift, but will work midnights anytime to get out of being on days. I feel bad for anyone who gets stuck on a shift they hate. Midnights are extremely difficult to adjust to if you're not a natural night owl. Even being one myself, I get pretty spent by around 4:00 am. Those last few hours are a killer. Good luck with the jobe hunt, I hope a great one will come your way soon. Great news about the car title. It couldn't have come at a better time.

Topic: Passed the testing!!
Hi everyone, just thought you might want to know I passed the typing and skills test for the OSP dispatching. I go for the interview next Monday. The test was longer than I thought...took me three hours almost. But most of it was easy, common sense stuff. Multi tasking and listening type things. Just had a hard time with some of the memory number with letter recalls. Its easy to type when you are hearing someone say it, but to listen, then type it down by memory...didn't do so well. But I passed anyways..yeah!
The interview is only about 20mins or so, but it is in front of a panel of people....have never interviewed with a panel before, talk about nervous. The supervisor said to come early, she would let me review 5 question, because they are tuff ones she said. Hmm...guess we will see.
Anyways, just wanted to check back in with ya'll and let you know how it was going. I was pretty stoked yesterday.
Hugs,
Tami
Topic: Health or no, I am outta here!
The schedule for June came out Wed afternoon, I told my boss Thursday morning, taht while I realize he is working on moving me to another shift (they have been "wroking on it" for 3 months now) That I can't do this anymore. Sleeping is getting more difficult, and I am so worn out it isn't funny. I knew there would be an adjustment period switching to overnights, but 8 months?? It isn't going to happen. Soooo, health issues be darned, I am actively looking. I sent a resume to one place (domestic violence intervention shelter) and we will see what happens. The hospital where my friend works is hiring secretaries, and they train and benefits start day one (although they are not as good as what I have here, I will give them that, our benefits are good and CHEAP!) I am going to consider applying for a dispatcher job in a neighboring county, but they have 12 hour shifts, and I still won' t be able to work an overnight shift, that will be a problem, but I will apply and see what happens. They start part time, but have a high turnover so FT opens fast!
i did get a nice surprise Thursday afternoon, the title to my car came in the mail, I thought I had another 4 months to pay, but I had paid a little over when I could, guess I got it done early WHOO HOO
so that makes a change easier, I can afford a slight pay cut.. that helps alot! I will keep y'all updated.. thanks for the continued support!

Hi Dina! Thankyou for responding. I don't work for OSU, I work for Chemeketa...its a large community college. We have seven full time officers and many part timers and ticket writers. Part of my job other than dispatching, is dealing with staff and students who get tickets, or have emergencies. People sure can come unglued about tickets...(even though we have signs everywhere about permits..lol. I think I am weird...I do long for more excitement...when students don't pay there tickets, and they get more than four, we can boot there cars...I like the excitement. I like it when the officers call in a traffic stop and they have a suspended DL or a warrent out for them. We don't get alot of that, but we do have trouble with gangs in this area.
I am familiar with the 12-code. We do not, however, use a CAD system. We have access. I usually write info down on a pad of paper while the officer is giving me info, although I always put the call time down, location on our CR log first, then it gets put in the computer, the rest on the CR log and then on the officers AR log. I am interested to try out a new system. Hopefully I will do ok. As long as I can not be too nervous, I think I will do fine. I multi task alot at my job. This morning, I was taking a typing test online and I was suprised at my speed. I don't type super fast or anything, but I thought I was at 36 or 37 wpm. I hadn't tested in many years. This morning I rated about 42 to 45wpm. with about 92 to 94 accuracy. I think I need to concentrate more and slow down...would like to get my accuracy up above 95%.
So how long do the test take? I just got my info in the mail and it says that it could take up to four hours. Which is fine, just wondering. The supervisor I talked to the other day did not say. Anyways, I am just babbling away...lol. Its on my mind alot!
Oh yeah, I definetly know Dina McBride! She is a wonderful and loving person. She lovingly gave up two weeks to accompany me to Spain to be my support person. It was so nice having someone who knew the ropes a bit. I also see her every month at our support group in Portland. She's the head of it.
Anyways, take care of yourself.
Hugs,
Tami

Welcome to the board Tami
I'm in NJ, so I can't help you with any info, but I just wanted to say hi. This is a good group of people. The board gets slow at times, but everyone here is great. Congratulations and good luck on the interview. A big congrats on your weight loss too!

Topic: Got a FT job!!
I finally got hired as a FT dispatcher! It's about freakin' time! I've been waiting for it to open up in my department for 2 years, to no avail. A good friend referred me for a job in another town a few weeks ago. I had my interview on tuesday and got a call the next day offering me the job. I was so excited, and blown away by how quickly they hired me. They had a lot of other applicants, and I know at least 2 of them have experience because they have both worked for my dep't. My friend was told that I was goiong to be the first one interviewed. If that's true than I'm really thrilled to know I impressed them enough to be hired right away without them interviewing anyone else
. The pay is a lot better there than in this town too. The FT's here make $12.50 to start, and I'll be getting $15.65. Plus the benefits there are very good, and very inexpensive. So cool.
I'm finishing up my first week of special I training at the academy tomorrow. I can't believe I've survived it
The DI's are tough, and the male one is just plain scary
. The female one is tough but not as frightening. I hope she'll be around more than him next week.
This experience has shown me just how out of shape I really am. We don't have any actual PT, because we are only going for class I and they don't require it. Thank God for that! Just doing the drills and the few up-downs and push-ups we've been forced to do is killing me. My legs hurt so bad every night I could scream. I can't bend them anymore
. I can't wait until it's over. Only one more week from tomorrow!
Okay, I'm off to pack some more. We're also moving into a new place (our own house!) in less than a week, so my life is a bit hectic at the moment.
Goodnight all
