Yvonne, I would ask my doctor. I have never had issues with that so I didn't do any of those tests. I hear that is is really important if you need one so I would ask just to be completely safe.**hugs** Sarah =0)

Hey Yvonne... My name is Tammy and I work at Northeast Medical Center where you will be having your surgery and I also am planning to have RNY but with Dr Melkonian in Charlotte because Dr Bauman does not accept Cigna insurance; however I am in the process of working up my appeal because Cigna denied me last week; I wish you the best of luck and feel free to email me at anytime; I would love to have someone to talk to who is going through this at the same time as myself;; I hope you have a Blessed Day

Hi, just wanted to let you know I'm having surgery the same day as you. Wow, I am so glad I didn't have to do a liquid diet. I did have to lose 24 pounds though. I only have three more to go in one more week, So I have been doing a liquid diet on my own, but I cheat alittle now and then. I think days 2 threw 4 of the liquid diet will be the worst. The longest I have made is 2 and a half days. I know if I just stuck it out I would have got over the hump. Well we will both be losers that day. I was looking on the surgery dates page and so far there are 31 others having surgery that day. I think its cool knowing others are going threw the same thing on the same day. Good Luck

I think it's wonderful to know there are so many others going through the same experiences at the same time in their lives. You have done so great thus far and I know we will get there soon. Together we will be on the losing side. Keep me posted on your progress. Take Care of you, Debbie

Hi I am TMaye- I am looking for peers also. I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Alan Brader last month but got terrified to go to the appointment because all fo the horror stories that I keep hearing. I rescheduled my appointment for January 7 but it seems that I can't find any support groups because all my family keeps telling about is the people whom they have heard who have died from the surgery or the people who are constantly sick because they had the surgery. I see the surgery just like i would see any surgery- any surgery you have is gonna have risk. It's just ..............HELP- I need some support

Thanks for the reply Regina. I am sorry to say, but Pockets died ontuesday of last week of a heart attack brought on after he had hernia surgery. The problems that we had fixed, but took so long to diagnose after having so many expensive tests done and meds. I will miss him for a long time. My kids grew up with this dog and he kept me from thinking of any pain that I had. He had the surgery on the monday and we brought him home early tuesday morning and he was at home for about 2 hrs. He said good bye to us all in his own little way and then he went to sleep and never woke up. Rushing him to the vet it was too late. I said my good byes and so did my kids. My heart hurts so bad that I have problems eating sleeping and thinking. It has gotten better the last few days, but I miss him so much. I hear his little toenail****ting the floor when he walked. His little sighs when he wants to go outside and how he rubbed up against my legs when he wanted to eat I can see his eyes the way they shined so bright. The last few weeks he had stopped whinning due to pain and just laid around and took few steps before flopping down. He had been with us for almost 15 yrs and he was old as well. 79 in human yrs. I know he is with God and folks that I have lost in my family. He will be in my heart always. I will not get another pet due to I get too attached to them and it will be hard anyways like replacing Pockets. I am sorry that you had to do what you did for your dog, but understandable. Thank you so much. Irish

I am so sorry that you lost your dog. I know the kind of pain that gives one. I am sure that you gave him the best of homes and I know that he knew it. 15 years for a larger dog is very good. I was never able to get that many years out of my purebreds. Dixie
