I have 5 dogs and out of the 5, 4 were rescues. My one and only non-rescue is an American Eskimo(mini) named Xena who swears she is people in dog clothing. My rescues are King, an older (approx 8 yrs) Rough Collie. He is so gorgeous. His original owners abused the hell out of him. He was so matted when rescued 2 hours before he was to be euthanized by another lady from a humane society that all his hair had to be shaved. He could not walk on his hind leg at all. Now his hair is grown in and he is RUNNING on all 4 of his legs now. Then the humane society had a collie mix that had a litter of puppies and was homeless. They asked if I would take her and I gladly did once she had weaned the puppies. Then I found Belle, a sweet little black lab mix that had been through hell too. When I found her she was missing and eye and it was severely infected. Her ear was split as well. I took her to the vet......they did surgery on her and cleaned and sewed her little eye shut. She is the sweetest little angel. Then when going to visit a friend of mine in Dublin, GA....I saw the cutest little puppy alongside the interstate. She looked so lost. I stopped and she came right to me. I took her home and she is great. She looks to be a lab mix as well. Anyone else into rescuing animals? I love it! But wish I had a bigger place to keep them all! We have 2 rescues from a shelter also. Pickles is a shepard mix and kosmo, she is a schnoodle... schauzer poodle mix, very tempermental and finickey like a poodle, lol she loves to go on vacations with us and go bye bye too. It breaks my heart to see animals mistreated and I wish I could adopt them all. To me it seems these rescued animals know you have saved them from death. They are so loyal and so giving and willing to please, just to be loved. I wouldnt trade these dogs for anything they are tied to my heart strings. The world needs more people like you, and maybe the world would be a better place, If people would show more love and kindness.

Rescue dogs are the best. My family has bought two dogs in my 47 years. The rest have been rescues. I wish I had a fenced yard, more money, and a husband willing to have more than two dogs. I would have 10 if I could (without getting divorced.)

I have been doing recue work for 11 years for a PA shelter that does not put their animals down. I currently have 5 cats & 3 dogs all were rescued & have very unique stories. Occasionaly we take in a litter until they are old enuff to be put up for adoption. This is the most rewarding "job" I have ever had.

Having grown up working in and around shelters I have never purchased a pet from a store. The 4 who live with me at present found me. One night while it was raining, we heard a meow at the front door we opened it and in walked Onyx. our black momma kitty. She walked right in and declared us hers. She was pregnant when we were adopted we found homes for her kids and had her fixed. Our second kitty T'nikko was one of her litter. He's my soul mate! My Kiera was the result of my being a dog trainer. I needed a demo dog who I could use in classes to teach others my techniques. She was an abused, scared but loveable akita-shepherd mix. She loves kids and dogs so it worked well for class. She's my bud! she goes everywhere with me. I have hearing loss and have trained her to be a service hearing dog. We came back from a trip out of country and I had just picked up Kiera from the hotel and stopped to get some water and a special treat when we both noticed a smallish dog being chased by 3 people through some pretty snarly looking traffic. After about 20 mins. she stopped looked at us and made a bee line for us. She hopped into my truck and sat in the passenger seat like, "ok, I'm done lets go home now." Kiera was a bit confused and the people chasing this dog were now approaching me asking if she was mine. I explained that no I only have the one. They were eyeing me like "yeah right" since she just hopped into the front of my truck. Well, none of them could take her and I couldnt leave her stranded on the street. So she came home. Morgan is now one of us.

Standing ovation! I think it's just great that you support the adoption of animals. I volenteer at my local animal shelter, and it's really sad to see how many animals never find a forever-home. I also love the fact that you aren't hooked on puppies. It just breaks my heart to see the adult dogs that would make wonderful companions getting passed over for puppies left and right. Sounds like things are pretty tight at your house pet-wise, but you might consider fostering an animal. It buys them some time, and it gives prospective adopting families an insight to the animals behavior. So often people adopt not knowing what they are getting into. Something to consider. I'm fostering a litter of kittens for the next couple weeks, they are too adorable. I also have 3 adult cats (two DSH's and one Siamese) as well as one terrior mix that we adopted a few weeks ago. The shelter couldn't accept the kitties cuz they aren't on a full dry-food diet yet, they would have had to put them all down if a foster home wouldn't have been available. Thanks for bringing some sunshine and love into your dogs' lives. Jen
