hi! first time to this site. i have a 1.5 yr.old chihuahhua named archie. i have to say that i never thought i'd become a fancier of this breed. my last dogs were brittanys, and i still miss them terribly! but this little guy that i have now is wonderful! i am having a hard time with the housebreaking though, but we're working on it. he's also very fresh to strangers even though i try to keep him socialized. he acts like a maniac! i'd love to here from other chi lovers re: thier experiences. thanks! nancy gentili

Hi Nancy. I've had 3 chihuahua and loved them all dearly. They all had their own personalities and smart as a whip. My first one some kind of way taught herself that if her feelings were hurt she'd go back in my room and would not come out until you said I'm sorry! My second one was so small he'd jump in your arms and then climb on top of your head and dance around. My third one quickly learned what rubber gloves meant or any of his care items, tuck his tail and sneak off. I'm planning to get another puppy in a few weeks, hoping for a girl and we think we're gonna name her Chi Chi. As far as your dog barking and snapping at strangers, don't try to stop him from earning his living. If possible keep him by you or fence him off. Oh and they can be great mousers! My first one would hear a mouse and go sit where it was and wouldn't move all day if the mouse didn't. I could go on and on about these smart creatures, but you get the idea. They are quite loveable. did you have any of these chihuahuas simultaneously? i had 2 males, but they were very jealous of each other and if i were around they would fight fiercly. if i were holding one, he would get so territorial and lunge at the other one. i ended up finding the less aggressive one a wonderful home, now he's the center of attention. but i would like a girl, and i'm not sure if it would be the same scenario.

No unfortunately I didn't have them all at the same time, but when I had my first one my brother moved back home and brought his chihuahua. They were both female and mines was older but my brother's dog was more domineering and she'd decide when my dog would eat or not. Needless to say I didn't care for this plus I was mad that my dog wouldn't take up for herself. Now this is what we're guessing what happen this faithful day, but my brother's dog would always be in the lead and my dog would follow her. Right behind where we lived was an alley that lead out to the street. That Saturday when they were let out to do their daily romping around, my brother's dog came home and mines didn't. It wasn't until Sunday that my cousin had walked home from Sunday School and came that way and saw my dog had been hit and killed on the side of the road. So we're sure they were on their way back home and my brother's dog was in the lead with my dog following behind. Well let me tell you, my brother's dog had a guilty conscience from then on cause whenever we were outside and I asked her where Sugar(my dog) was, she would tuck her tail and slink off. Do you plan to mate them? If not I would suggest getting both fix. That helps to mellow out the male and with the female you wouldn't have to wake up one morning to a yard full of mangy dogs. Are you wanting a female puppy? He might be more tolerant of a puppy than an older dog. My last chihuahua we had about 6 years and I received a female pomeranian puppy. My dog Chip, was a male. He did not like this dog at all. He didn't really fight her much cause he was scared to get scolded but he stayed out of her way most of the time. As the pup got older and wiser she learned to aggitate him to get his food. Well Chip got so depressed all he would do is stay in his box. I finally gave up the pomeranian to a cousin of mine, but Chip still wasn't quite the same. He disappeared one night after we put him out to take care of his business. Don't know if coyotes got him, he got hit and someone dumped his body somewhere or he was stolen. We had him the longest.(7years) Now I'm ready for another girl chihuahua and hope to get it in about 4 weeks.
