Hurt Guy
Hi everyone!
I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions about nail clipping for dogs. My little guy, well, he's a 60lb lab/shephard mix, went to a well known Mart for Pets this week for a bath and nail trim. His very first. They tore his whole nail away from the nail bed. He had to have surgery yesterday. I know that he will never let anyone cut his nails again without a fight. Does filing work? Any wuggestions would be welcomed!!! Michell
Poor baby! Our little princess had the same thing happen and it was a constant struggle. The vet said we could do one of two things ~ put her out every time we wanted her nails clipped which is rather pricy, or make sure she does a lot of walking and running on concrete which naturally filed them down. Needless to say, we've taken a lot of walks on the sidewalks!
Good luck!

My daughters boyfriend and his family show dalmations in top AKC conformation shows, and I have problems cutting my babys toe nails too, and he suggested what they do for show dogs, is the vet will put them under with anathesia, and split the nailbed or quick and cut it short, since show dogs must have very short toenails. I dont know but I bet this hurts afterword, poor dogs, but I might ask my vet what they think and how much it runs. Good luck Rosemary
