Our baby girl is pregnant! Now what!? Please HELP!
Our baby border collie girl (1yr old) called Vera "hooked together" with our 2yr old border collie boy about a dozen times last week! She's definitely pregnant, and we're expecting puppies in 8-9 weeks. Woohoo! The only trouble is that we've never done this before. I'm worrying about a baby getting stuck half way out (or whatever) and it causing problems for Vera. Are there any general rules that I should know, like "There should never be more than an hour between each puppy's birth" or "If she rolls over on her back during birth it means one is stuck" or whatever!?
Any advice would be very much appreciated. Our primary concern is to make sure that Vera is healthy and happy after, and during, the birth. We love her very much. So does our border collie boy (obviously!)

I did some research on line. My Toy fox terrier got pregnant over the christmas ~ new years holiday and we expect puppies in about 2 weeks. My surgery is scheduled for 2/18/05. I'm hoping that I am home and able to help if needed.
Vera will need a big box to have the puppies in. Lots of shredded newspaper. Some old clean towels, clean thread to tie cord and cut it if Vera does not, nasal aspirator, rubber gloves.
I would suggest calling the vet and asking for any information they can give you to get you ready. Good Luck!!! and Congratulations!!!

Hello, I'am hoping to have surgery. I have a pom, Sasha. Not long after we got her she got hit by a car a broke her pelvic bone the vet said she would never be able to have puppies, but before i could get her fixed, yelp she got pregnant. When it came time to have them it would not come out and our vet didn't come in till 9am and by the time i got her to the vet(30 min away) she had to have a c-section $300 and no puppies. She never did roll over on her back, but yelp every once in a while. I walked the floor. needless to say as soon as possible we had her fixed i didn't want her to go through that again. If for any reason you think she might not be able to have them take her to the vet. My baby girl carried a stuff animal around for months thinking it was her pup
she is doing great now and is loved very much. (spoiled) lol

I had a red n white husky girl that got pregnant by another red n white husky male. Her 1st litter..she was 3yr old and she had 6 pups. Her 5th was HUGE and stuck 1/2 way. She couldnt pu**** out at all. I got a handtowel and pulled the pup out on her next push........*pop* Shelby (the mom) yelpt but was soooooooo happy that I 'helped' her deliver that pup. After all was done.....that 5th pup looked like a 3 week old pup!! Sheesh...but I just stayed calm and did it.
This was our first birth ever!! We both came thru it ok.
Something I noticed no one mentioned, be sure the momma breaks open the sack each puppy is in as soon as it is born. If momma doesn't do this you will have to because the puppy will suffocate if this sack isn't opened shortly after birth. Most mommas get this done, but sometimes they don't know what to do if it is their first litter. Momma usually chews the cord into but if she shouldn't you will also have to do that. Good Luck!!!
My two mini schnauzers had 4 puppies each two days apart three weeks ago.
