Hi - I've had 5 Poms- one rare Chocolate, one wolf sable, and one jet black. Plus a bunch of puppies. I love them, but don't like their constant teeth problems and long hair!! Two Poms lived till they were 18 years old. Barb in CA

I haven't had any teeth problems with her as of yet. But I do brush her teeth twice a week. Any tips you can give me on teeth issues? Her hair is work I agree but I do it myself. I brush her out every night when I have time to watch tv and she pretty good with it. She is a smaller size Pom but I do her hair every week since she was 4months when I got her. I think when you got a long hair dog it is a huge commitment I agree it is work :D

Hi Yankee Diva! I have a Pom mix (3 yrs old). She is 1/2 Pom and 1/2 Chihuahua. She is blonde and cute as a button! She has long hair and most of her features are Pom, although I can tell she has some Chihuahua traits too. One probem I have is housebreaking her. No matter what I do, I can't seem to break her of messing in the house. And she knows to go potty outside because she will go on command when I take her out. But she is so sneaky, she will go off to other rooms in the house and do her business but I know she is capable of holding it because whenever I crate her, she will not go in her crate. She will also pee on anything left on the floor like clothes, towels, throw rugs, etc. It is so frustrating! I am at my wits end with her doing this and hubby gets so mad he says we should get rid of her but I love her so much in spite of this behavior (she's so loveable and loves to cuddle!). Any suggestions?!? I have also tried using the puppy training pads and they worked for a while but then she stopped using them. She is a very smart girl, although she is very timid and shy. Tammy

Hi, I will be totally honest with you. Small dog training is hell and it has to be constant. And by constant I mean millitant lol. I do not think small dogs any breed* are ever 100% potty trained outside. With Chai she sleeps in her crate, then outside, then breakfast then outside and is outside every two hours and I watch her like a hawk. The breeders I got her from with their puppies they put down rugs and sheets for the puppies to go on! This has lead to such problems for me as well. When I am home Chai is kept in the kitchen with me and I put paper down she gets her food and water on a sced. so I know what goes in and out. I know the running around and wetting can drive the most patient of people insane. She only gets to run around when I am in that room and I know she's just gone. I tried the dog litter box and followed it to the letter she just would not learn it. I know its hard work but maybe if you set up a area just for your dog and stick to her potty training with both guns you can get there. I know you love your dog sooo much and feel like your failing cause they just can't figure it out. Just keep trying and make rules for your dog and have everyone stick with them

Hi, I just found your post and wanted to post to you. I have a pom, he's a red sable and 10 years old, and he is a very loveable and sweet dog. I also have 2 ****er spaniels, and a pug. The pom can be a little anoying once in a while with his high shrill barking, I have a muzzle, when he gets too over-anxious. I have found him easy to train over the years and for the most part obedient. I'm a dog groomer and in the summers I shave his entire body down and leave a fluffy tail and a lions mane cut around his head. He looks really cute, and this allows him to go swimming with me without the extra weight of his hair pulling him under, and he loves to go floating on rafts. By christmas his hair is to the ground again, it grows very fast. I always use a good shampoo and cream rinse when I bathe him. I usually use a oatmeal shampoo or green tea and aloe shampoo by Top Performance. Poms really don't need alot of bathes it dries out their skin. I bathe him no more than twice a month, unless he gets in a mess. I use frontline plus or advantage on him in the summers, during flea season and have him on heart worm year around. I think you'll find this breed to be very people compatible and extremely affectionate. Good luck - Kat

My first time here, but I have three Poms. Love them all. I found we had to remove all the rugs in the house. Now they seem to be going outside much better. Someday I hope I can put the rugs back down, but not for now. Funny how it is the smallest one is the one who causes the most trouble on the wetting problem. Ha ha. I just keep cleaning and putting her out and telling her to go. Someday.... Sara
