fleas

ok i know how to treat my dog but can i give her some benadryl and how much she is scratching and biting at herself.. the flea well i have a family member that gets them all the time and they spent time at my house the other day and did there laundry and now my 4 year old rotti has fleas for the first time in her life... i am so mad. thanks for the help

Hi Priscilla, You have a family member that gets fleas? I've never heard of that! Or did I read that wrong? But, about your dog, yes, you can give her Benadryl to help w/the itching. I think you can give her 3 actually -my friend has a German Shepherd (85 lbs) who has allergies and she usually gives him 3, sometimes 4, but 4 knocks him out. I'd try a couple at first and see how that goes. You don't want to drug her, you just want to stop the itch. Fleas are horrible. Get Frontline (from the Vet or Petco) to get rid of them. If they're in your house, uggh...good luck getting them out. Frontline is really good with preventing flea infestation though. One a month for ticks/fleas and one every 3 months for fleas alone. another remedy, tho I totally believe in frontline... is (and no I'm not nuts lol) Avon Skin So Soft bath oil diluted in water and sprayed on your pets. The oil base and skin conditioners help with the itching and for some reason fleas hate it! You can also use it on thier bedding as well.
