Topic: RE: I LOVE BOSTON'S, DON'T U
Yes I do. I have a male named Bruiser. He's big, 25 pounds and a real joy. He too is a backwarmer. I wish I could take him everywhere, I do weather permitting that I can leave him in the car. He would rather be there than waiting at home.. But too cold or too hot days he has to stay at home. Our fun outings we go walk around Pets Mart/
Dogs are the perfect companion...just think what the spell backwards!
No wonder thay give us unconditional love!

He IS a lap dog, so is our min schnauzer Jazz. These are our babies and go everywhere with us, even to florida on vacations. I cant forget our schnoodle, melda. We would like to find a stud for pebbles next year to breed with. Jazz and schmooze will make babie schnoodles (hybreds) later this summer when he matures and she come into heat. We use to live in paulding, Oh near Defiance just off hwy 24 fort to port... hope to hear from you. Rosemary
Topic: RE: Awkward Yet True Issue-HELP!
Tracy,
I am no dog trainer but I did have this issue and it seems to be resolved. Dogs are so smart it seems they know what you are up to.
and maybe your baby boy is having a little bit of a jealousy issue. So here is what I did. I would start with short periods of time. When you go into your bedroom close the door and leave him out. He will start to cry then open the door and tell him "NO!" make good eye contact. Do it again, and again, each time open the door and tell him "NO!" you may need to bend down and give him a little shake. Not abusive just enough to show him you mean business. grab both sides of his chest by his shoulders, look him straight in the eyes, give him a little shake and say"No" Now, if you shut the door and he does not whine or cry even for a few seconds open the door and reward him with great praise and a treat! Gradually increase the amount of time you stay in the room. Be consistant, if he cries tell him "no" right away and if he does not praise him like crazy and give him treats. Then start having other people in the room and make some noise. If he cries tell him no and if not give him treats. He will start associating you coming out of the room with being happy to see him and giving him treats when he is a good boy. And he will learn that crying gets mom upset with him. He wants to make you happy. It takes time and you have to be consistant. Try to do it in all your rooms. Pratice with him. While training my dog I keep a pocket full of tiny treats. Let me know how it goes. I do have one other idea if this does not work but you have to give it time.

Topic: RE: Any Corgis out there?
I have a tricolored Pembroke Welsh Corgi, named Mister. He is one year old and we have so much fun with him. He is a bit mouthy but I love him so much. I noticed you are from Louisiana. I am orginially from Houma, Louisiana but now live in Maryville, TN. I am hoping to have surgery in the spring. Just waiting to finish my three month supervised diet.

Topic: Awkward Yet True Issue-HELP!
Ok! (deep breath)
I am not sure why I think of the OH forums as the FIRST place to post this!
I have a 2.5 yo dachshund mix that I adore...and my boyfriend of 10 months adores him as well....he's spoiled. He sleeps with us every night, but SOMETIMES we want to be alone if you know what I mean. SO....we give him a treat and let him chew and he stays in the living room. Well, sometimes he wants in the room and sits out there and whines until we can't 'finish'. He used to be kennel trained, do you think that I need to make him stop sleeping with us at all?
Any training advise would be MUCH appreciated-something I can do without alienating him would be optimal.
Tracy

Topic: Help! Anyone familiar with liver disease in dogs?
I just thought I would take a chance and see if anyone knows anything about high ALT levels in dogs. I have a gorgeous 7 year old Golden who just had bloodwork done in preparation for a routine dental cleaning. When the results came back my vet told me that she was concerned because his liver enzymes were three times higher than the norm. She has scheduled him for an ultrasound after checking his urine and finding it dilute (lots of drinking and peeing). Everything else about him is completely healthy....he's not overweight, exercises daily, very active, good appetite and isn't vomiting. I'm so freaked out, he's a huge part of my life and I can't stand waiting another week till his ultrasound. Thanks for any advice/insight.

Topic: RE: Anyone have a mastiff?
Okay, Michella, I will take your advice!! Do you think the classes at
PetSmart are enough, or should I find a private class somewhere? (You
may not be familiar with PetSmart's classes if it's not in your area.)
She is a HUGE chewer, and we pull her off our hands and scold her and
then give her a chew toy to continue on, but it doesn't keep her for long.
She is always chewing on someone or something inappropriate, like the
coffee table or the couch! If I hold her in my lap and hold the nylabone,
she'll sit there so peacefully and chew for an hour if I can stand it! I've
never seen any dog need to chew so much.
It's so great that you got yours from a rescue org. I admire that. I
know they're grateful for a happy home! They are very loving, aren't
they? Ours just has the cutest personality. I love it when she walks
up to me and gives a couple of her deep barks...that means she's
thirsty. She never barks for food, jus****er. She's such a drinker!
I'll be glad to receive any more advice you have to offer at any time,
trust me! I have a lot to learn about this little girl.

Hi Stephanie,
I have 2 english Mastiffs..both are rescue dogs..My male is 220 lbs and my female is around 130.
You need to start training your puppy now or you will have a huge problem on your hands!!! Mastiffs are the gentle giant but if you are being used a a chew toy, change that habit! I get all my information on Mastiff Club of America and Friends of Rescued Mastiffs. You will not regret your choice in the mastiff...
