Topic: RE: Dog Trainer on board
sounds to me like they are competing for Alpha dog. Just a suggestion but when they fight, how do YOU handle it? (what do you do etc?) When dogs typically fight for alpha dog, (which is totally normal) it usually means that they are confused who is Alpha and are trying to establish pack order.
The goal here is to let them know consistantly that YOU are alpha!
I went through this with two female german shepherds and let me tell ya, it was a HUGE learning experience for me, HUGE vet bills later (from the fights) I finally invested in an animal behaivourist and whala! I saw results.
What I had to do was first learn the "SAFE" way to break up a german shepherd fightlol. Then The SAFE way to do an alpha roll.

another remedy, tho I totally believe in frontline... is (and no I'm not nuts lol) Avon Skin So Soft bath oil diluted in water and sprayed on your pets. The oil base and skin conditioners help with the itching and for some reason fleas hate it!
You can also use it on thier bedding as well.

I breed german shepherds. The best advice I could give to you would be to buy a crate. Keep your little sweetie in her crate to sleep. Most dogs will urinate/deficate within 1/2 hr of eating, and waking up. Dogs actually love crates as long as they aren't used for "punnishment" but rather for thier "den"... thier cozy private place to chill.
As for the pee. A little black light is a lifesaver for me, as I can shine it in a dark room near the carpet and see exactly where a puppy might have peed (old pee too!). Then the magic cure for getting RID of the urine (amonia) smell is to dilute some hydrogen peroxide with water in a spray bottle and saturate the area. Then wipe it up with a towel.
No need to buy expensive "smell be gone" products. Hydrogin peroxide nuturalizes the amonia in the urine just as good!
Topic: RE: Any Scottish Terrier Owners/lovers out there?
Hi Rachel,
I have two Scotties, it seems like once you get one you just have to have another. My boy is Ian Mcdoogle and my girl is Lilliana Mcdoogle
silly I know but I just couldn't resist giving them a last name. Lilliana is a rescue from the local pound, I don't know how old she is but she is blind in one eye, and has lost most of her teeth and hair. I knew no one would want her and she would be put down and I couldn't stand the thought of that. She is more like a fixture on the couch then anything else. Ian is my baby, well he is 4 but he is still my baby. He is black and has a bit of OCD, he is obsesed with tennis balls, and all toys are his. I think they are the smartest dogs and so funny. We also have a Boxer who is 1 & 1/2 years. Good luck on finding a female.

Hi Alisa
We have a five year old salt and pepper male named Benji. We keep him shaved in the summer and let his hair grow for the winter because he does not like to do his business in the yard. We have to take him into the bush and at -40 he needs the long hair. He looks like a little bear, a real cutie. You are probably wonderinf where I live. North Bay Ontario Canada. A nine hour drive north of Detroit.

Hi Rosemary, I know I love dogs. I had a chi mixed with poodle and it was such a wonderful pup. He loved me and I he. But we moved to this 2 story house with a huge backyard and we had to give him up,Because the OWNER didn't want dogs. He was small. Well when we moved the new people brought in the dog. And we later found out that the neighbors had a gotten a dog. I was so upset. But then come little Lola. She was so adorable. I actually bought her from the penny saver.I know i know, but they need homes too! Anyways he didn't have papers for her and said that she had all her shots updated. So I didnt worry about getting them, not yet. I kinda questioned her being a chi,but as she grew she stayed small and her ears got pointy and she started to look more like one. She was annoying but loving. When we would drive she would lay down on our necks agaist the headrest in the car. We had her little doggie bag and she traveled everywhere with us. I wanted a dog to replace her so I started to look in the pounds. As we got to one we were getting out of the car and I saw this man walking this German Shephard(sp) SHe kept looking back at us and when we went in he was giving it up to the pound and I asked him if we could keep her and he gave her to us. Her name is Frouline and she is about 3-6 years old. We now live in a small little house and she was too big to stay in doors but like being around people,I dont like pets staying outside. Its sad! Anyways, she is a good walking dog.I took her over to my aunts house and walk her every other day! I dont want anymore dogs right now. If I ever get one It'll be a silky terrier! I guess thats what they call them. They're about a grand. So now all I have is a faithful rabbit that i let loose around the house. Now thats my story, whats yours?
Sorry so long!

Listen to your dogs people!
1. Blaming your farts on me...not funny...not funny at all.
2. Yelling at me for barking...I AM DOG!!
3. How you naively believe that the stupid cat isn't all over everything while you're gone. Have you noticed that your toothbrush tastes a little like cat spit?!!
4. Taking me for a walk, then not letting me check stuff out. EXACTLY whose walk is this anyway?
5. Any trick that involves balancing food on my nose..........stop it.
6. Yelling at me for rubbing my bum on your carpet. Why'd you buy the carpet?
7. Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests. Sorry, but I haven't quite mastered that firm handshake thing yet.
8. How you act disgusted when I lick myself. Look, we both know the truth, you're just jealous.
9. Dog sweaters. Hello ????? Have you noticed the fur?
10. Any haircut that involves bows or ribbons. Now, you know why we chew your stuff up when you're not home.
11. When you stop to pick up the poop in the yard. Do you realize how far behind schedule that puts me?
12. Taking me to the vet for "the big snip," then acting surprised when I FREAK out every time we go back.
13. The sleight of hand, fake-fetch-throw. You fooled a dog! What a proud moment for the top of the food chain.

Topic: RE: Natural Dog Food...............
Thank you both for your replies. After doing a ton of research, I decided to go with Canidae brand food. I am making the slow switch with Cooper, and so far he seems to like it. I won't know for a while if it is going to help his skin problem, because I just started him on methylprednisone because he was having a terrible rash. I have a friend that uses the wellness brand with her golden and she highly recommended it as well.
Thanks again for your input, I really appreciate it.

I have a 7 year old Dalmatian with skin/food allergies. There are several foods that he does great on. The absolute best is Flint River Ranch. It is not sold in stores but if you search online you will find it. They ship it to your door. It is made with only human grade ingerdients and is oven baked. It is a bit expensive (averages a bit more than $1 per pound). But it is well worth the money. Chance's coat was beautiful. It was so shiny it glowed.
I have 3 other dogs now so I have had to switch to a more affordable food. We are using Nutro Natural Choice Chicken and Oatmeal for sensitive systems. It is very good and available at most petstores. We get ours at Petsmart. It is my second choice. Chance's coat is still beautiful but is doesn't seem to shine as much as it did with the FRR. But he used to have big red patches everywhere before we realized it was the food causing the problems. You can get a 40# bag for $30.
I am having starting to have trouble with one of my Shar-pei having food allergies and was told to try Wellness. It is only available at smaller pet stores (no petco or petsmart) It is also baked like FRR. Infact they are VERY similar. They have a new formula for dogs with sking allergies it is called Simple Food Solutions. It has only one meat protein source and 1 carb source. If it works well I will probably be switching my whole group to that. I'm not sure of the price though. Here is a link to it http://www.omhpet.com/dogs/simple_food_overview.html
Good luck with your dog. I know the itchies can be so frustrating.
