Some who mix breeds try to pass them off as a Breed unto their own. All you end up with is a healthier, better temperament, cute dog!
I think some purebred owners go a little overboard on their castigation of "designer" breeds.
I say to each his own!
As for cutting down on shedding, thats luck of the draw! You have no way of guaranteeing a puppy will inherit the non-shedding gene!

Hi La Wanda,
If your dogs fighting is causing injury, you need to get the help of a positive trainer who has experience in aggression. This is not an easy fix, and could result in some very bad wounds. I would recommend you start your search for a trainer on the www.apdt.com web site. Good luck!

How nice to see you here. I have a question. I have a 5 year old, male - lab/chow mix. I have a 4 year old, female - german sheppard/chow mix. I have a 3 year old, female - pit bull/lab mix. How do I keep my sheppard and pit from fighting? The male and pit "play" fight but when the sheppard gets the least bit nervous, she takes it out on the pit. And sometimes the pit snaps at her just egging her on. They fight and draw blood and rip skin and leave puncture marks. I give them kava kava or St. Johns Wort and even Pet Calm but nothing seems to work. The time out cage didn't do anything either. The funny thing is, the day after the fight, they're on their sofa together...butt to butt taking a nap. Go figure.

I have always been very courious as to why people mix their breeds. I see it's mostly with poodles. Why is that? Another popular mix is pug/beagle. Is it to cut down on shedding?

Topic: RE: Pugs!!
Hi Michelle,
You're right pugs are the greatest. That's why I have three and if I had more room it would be more because I can't resist the puppies!
I live in Maine, I'd love to go to the pug social. I've heard of it before. Isn't it held in Mass? Can you let me know when and where?
Thanks,
Karen
Topic: RE: Pugs!!
Hi Karen,
This is the first time I've been on this board. I have a pug mix and she is the greatest. She is a rescue baby and I got her from Pug Rescue of NC (before I moved to CT) 5 years ago. I'll have to scan her picture to send to you. She's very cute. She weighs 26 lbs (large for a pug, but she's longer and taller than a pug - and a little overweight). I've heard that she looks like she's mixed with chihuahua, but really, I'm not sure. I always thought that chihuahua's were small.
I really am in love with pugs. I think they are the greatest dog out there. Mine (Maggie) is so funny and has the greatest little personality. We are going to a Pug social in the beginning of October to benefit Pug Rescue of New England. That is going to be comical - all those pugs running around! I can't wait.
Thanks for the post! You are not alone - there are other pug lovers out there!!!!
Have a good one!

Topic: RE: fleas
Hi Priscilla,
You have a family member that gets fleas? I've never heard of that! Or did I read that wrong?
But, about your dog, yes, you can give her Benadryl to help w/the itching. I think you can give her 3 actually -my friend has a German Shepherd (85 lbs) who has allergies and she usually gives him 3, sometimes 4, but 4 knocks him out. I'd try a couple at first and see how that goes. You don't want to drug her, you just want to stop the itch.
Fleas are horrible. Get Frontline (from the Vet or Petco) to get rid of them. If they're in your house, uggh...good luck getting them out. Frontline is really good with preventing flea infestation though. One a month for ticks/fleas and one every 3 months for fleas alone.
I hope that helped! Good luck!
Michelle
