Topic: RE: Litter Training puppies???
I wouls use a crate, but also what might help is taking a small piece of waste and leaqve it in the litter box. the next time the pup is put there it will smell it, and realize eventually that this is where they need to go.

Crate training will be perfect. Many people think its mean to lock a pup up like that, but it really does make them feel secure. I potty trained my lat dog in less then a week using a crate. My newest puppy is for the most part potty trained, he's a lab mix, but he would rather not be in the crate unless its bedtime. Acutally he is such a mommas boy that he cant stand to not be near me. I got him a buddy the other night. She is just a mixed breed, not sure what. She also is not potty trained at all. I am her third home, and will be her last. She has a crate now too, and loves it. The dogs really do feel secure once they get used to the crate. It also keeps them safe whne eyes cant be on them. Talk to you Vet about it.

I have 2 pit / ? mixes and I adore 'em! Though neither are pups, they still had to get used to the rules in my home. You might do better with a cage. Pits are very clean, especially in their own personal space and will rarely soil the area that they think of as home. Put your pup in the cage between potty trips outside and you may have less mistakes in the house. The other thing is to train her that each part of your home is "home". Meaning - be sure to go in each room and spend some time there with her. If not, she'll think the closed off area is an "ok" spot to go potty because its not "home". Hope that helps, it's going to be some work simply because she's young, but they're very smart and learn quick so be consistent and you'll be successful. Renee

Topic: PIT/LAB MIX
We got a puppy last week. She is a Pit Bull/ and Chocolate Lab mix....BEAUTIFUL!!! We think she is between 3-4 months old. I don't think anyone ever tried to house break her. She was neglected and abused. We are having a hard time house breaking her. She hasn't quite figured out how to tell us she needs out. With her having pit in her we don't want to use too agressive training since we dont want her to get agressive. We take her out after she eats, and about every 1/2 hour to an hour, and as soon as she wakes up. Of course we are not always able to do this right away sometimes. And she is unable to hold it. Maybe she isn't as old as I think she is. I will find out next week when I take her to the Vet for her first visit. She loves being outdoors, but does not like being outside alone. I am hoping she gets the hang of potty training... soon. I haven't had a dog since I was a child. And I just remember that dog being able to tell you when she needed to go out. Any suggestions??

Hello All, I'd like to introduce myself to the group, my name is Rhonda and I hail from Washington State. I was thrilled to see this section of the WLS. As of late I am taking a break from breeding and persuing my other dog related hobbies as a Canine Photographer and Artist. If you would like to see my dogs and some of my work please feel free to take a peek at my site www.elite-image.com . I have an offer of specially created plates for fellow WLS recipients. Handpainted with your favorite pet/and or custom lettering. These plates are "our size" and make a great gift for friends embarking on this journey. If you are interested e-mail me mentioning this post. Regards, Rhonda M.

Topic: RE: Any Siberian Husky Lovers Out There?
Hello To All Sibe Lovers! I've been involved in the breed since 1980, they are certainly a noble breed. Very beautiful, striking canines. My best friends and constant companions for over 15 years. Warning! This breed is NOT FOR EVERYONE! I suggest looking past the good looks of the breed and doing your research before obtaining one. This article written by the Siberian Husky Club of America is enlightening..http://shca.org/shcahp2b.htm. Also, beware of petshops and "backyard breeders". If you are going to embark on the adventure of living with a Siberian than you want to get one from an ethical breeder who will be willing and able to answer all your questions and guide you along the way. Topic: RE: I wished Sweet Pea was here
Tammie Sweet Pea will always be in your heart and you will remember all the sweet things she did, but don't wait too long to get another "friend" whether it be another Poodle or a different breed. There is nothing that helps us heal better then the love of a dog or horse or whatever our favorite animals are. Petting a dog is one of the most relaxing and theraputic processes there is. Just remember the dog you get will have it's own personality and will be its own "person" and will win its own place in your heart.
